Chapter 14: Wooden Plane

1598 Words
The two men hid in the green trees to the villa's right. Christina covered her mouth with her hand. She mumbled: “How did he know there was a dead angle on the security camera?” What happened to Agatha today and Doctor Theseus' dangerous conspiracy theories made Christina feel a ripple on her back. She quickly slipped into the darkness. Christina hurriedly took the baseball bat her father had given her. Christina sneaked to the right side of the mansion, following the path through the trees. Christina still held the baseball bat firmly in her hand. She swore she would do anything against the intruder who had just broken into her mansion. The more Christina crept through the darkness, the more she felt fear and danger approaching. But Christina remained as calm as possible. That is not the first time her Violet Villa has been broken into. In the distance, a dark figure appeared in Christina's line of sight. As soon as her silent footsteps reached the violet bush, the hand holding the baseball bat swung to the full. Christina was about to deal a decisive blow to the black shadow's back, enough to paralyze him to lie still, when her arm suddenly grabbed her. Christina quickly turned around, exerting such force that the baseball bat slammed into the shoulder of the person behind. A scream rang out: “Christina!!! I'm Marc! God, you want to kill me?" The baseball bat fell to the grass, and Christina panicked, grabbed Marc's arm, and pulled him out into the light. Marc was in pain, writhing, his face lifeless. Christina frantically apologized to Marc. He didn't even have the strength to stand up. Marc groaned and scolded Christina Hanson as she stood there like a lunatic, trying to regain her sanity as quickly as possible. Christina suddenly bumped into something, soft enough to know that they weren't the tall trees in the garden but hard enough for her to groan in pain. A soft yellow light covered the face of the person who had just bumped into Christina. It was Brandy. Their eyes met immediately. Christina seemed so lost in Brandy's eyes that she forgot about Marc's pitiful presence. In front of Christina was a tall Brandy, handsome face, gently wavy hair, a high nose, and deep eyes that looked like Hollywood actors. Brandy looked at Christina thoughtfully, brows slightly furrowed, the contours of her face painted once more in the golden light. Brandy was like a statue on display in a museum in Christina's eyes. Two eager eyes met. It was not until poor Marc groaned a few times that Brandy and Christina woke up. Christina Hanson realized she had committed a crime, so she immediately bowed her head: “I'm sorry… I didn't mean it… I'm sorry. I don't know, are you okay? Do you need to check… health? ” “You…will be fine, won't you, Marc? What to do to have a health check? Please calm down! Sometimes I also fall into such a semi-conscious, half-awake state. How could a petite person like her hurt him? Look at Marc's muscles. He's strong enough to kill a bull." Brandy's voice sounded warm and witty enough. Brandy knew this was the best way to calm Christina's panic. Marc wasn't like that at all. He suddenly shouted: “Am I okay? I'm in pain here! I'm looking to have my shoulder blades checked. " You're a baseball player, God, Christina, aren't you?" But neither Christina nor Brandy seemed to care about Marc. Christina seemed attracted to his beauty because her head was still a bit dizzy, so her face became much more innocent. Not to mention Christina's eyes were so red that Brandy thought he was making her cry. Before Brandy could say anything, the chorus 'I'm sorry! I'm sorry!' being repeated over and over again by Christina made him laugh. However, the real victim was Marc. Brandy constantly reassured her and then turned her eyes towards the mansion inside. They both don't like hanging out with strangers much, but somehow he told her, "Hi. You must be the owner of this place. I'm Brandy. I was introduced here by Marc to rent both upper floors of the villa.” The two no longer cared about Marc and entered the mansion independently. Christina seemed hypnotized by Brandy, so they obediently followed him like a small cat. “So you want to rent this place? I didn't think Marc would be able to find a tenant so quickly.” At this point, Christina realized that Brandy was wearing a very sophisticated and polished outfit. Brandy looks like she just got back from the Oscars. Although Brandy's luxurious appearance and body are entirely different from those who come from far away to New York looking for career opportunities, she needs money anyway, so the doubts in her mind no longer matter. Christina Hanson always thinks that she should trust others a little. That will make her feel happy and relieved. And most importantly, Agatha's situation at the hospital motivates her a lot. Christina took Brandy inside the mansion. As soon as the lights were illuminated, dispelling the darkness, creating a new face for the interior and exterior spaces of the villa. Brandy was quite surprised by the architecture of this place as it was the first time he had Admired an aesthetic work of art through the subtle feelings of the design language. However, Christina quickly noticed that his expression was quite strained and monotonous. She assumed that he was trying to show industrial awe or something like that to befriend her to lower the monthly rent quickly. Christina Hanson smiled softly, the brightest, most polite, and most reliable smile she could ever show: “Make yourself at home! I have to see how Marc is. I didn't expect both of you to be here at this time and completely uninformed of me. If I had known in advance, I would have prepared tea or food for two.” Christina quickly went out to take Marc inside. He groaned briefly and then begged Christina to make up for him with a decent meal. She said: “You should go to the Red Apple for a checkup. I have an acquaintance there. Let me pay for the cost, okay?" “Christina, I thank you for your kindness, but Red Apple is the most expensive hospital in New York.” Marc shook his head erratically. Christina sighed heavily. She also had no choice but to let Agatha stay in the hospital for treatment, knowing that the high costs there would make her finances shaken. Christina and Marc stepped inside and found Brandy sitting on the balcony, a small wooden plane in hand. He greeted them both with a smile, then noticed Christina's unfriendly gaze fixed on the wooden plane. Brandy hastily said, “I'm sorry. I'm sorry. My curiosity came into play at the wrong time.” Brandy put the wooden plane back in the dark tea-colored glass cabinet. Marc smiled faintly, giving Christina a compliment about her display case. Marc said the cabinet is an antique cabinet custom-made according to the owner's wishes, and its wood material can last for hundreds of years. The most valuable feature of these cabinets is that they are amazingly resistant to moisture, dust, and termites. Therefore, people often use them to display useful things. Marc thinks that only rich people can usually own cabinets like this because it's hard for ordinary people to know how to use them. Christina smiled at both boys. She said the former owner of Violet's villa left this cabinet. Since then, Christina rarely touches it because she wants to keep it the same. "Every item in the closet may be someone's great memory," she said. I am not cruel enough to destroy such good things.” Brandy heard Christina's words and then smiled a little smirk: "Sometimes they're just silly things. If they were really important, the former owner of Violet's mansion would have taken them away.” Marc was quite annoyed with Brandy's provocative way of talking. He glanced at Brandy. And Brandy remained calm. Christina smiled. She said: "Let me make tea for you two." "That's good! Thank you in advance! If there was more food, that would be great.” Marc was amused and sat down across from Brandy, and as soon as Christina disappeared from the room, Marc reminded Brandy: “Since when did you become so curious and insensitive? Do I need to remind you that you shouldn't touch other people's things without permission? My God… how boring!” Christina looked happy and smiling, but inside, she was full of doubts about Brandy. She wondered how he managed to get the wooden plane out of the closet easily. She tried to open this cabinet many times but failed. Christina rolled her eyes, shrugged, and tilted her head, thinking maybe Brandy was rich. That's why he decided to rent both upper floors of Violet's mansion. At this point, Christina can only try to convince herself of her suspicions towards Brandy. Christina couldn't miss an opportunity like this. Agatha is still receiving treatment at the hospital and has a lot of other expenses that she has to pay every month. So Brandy is an unexpected salvation brought to her by God and Marc at this time. Christina uses leftover packets of ginger tea, adding a little honey from the kitchen counter to make the two cups of tea she brews Brandy and Marc as luxurious and delicious as Starbucks.
