Elemental Queen

Chapter 2: The First Change and Mates

Steel's POV

    As Crystal and I rode away from our pack's property, I can tell that Crystal was crying behind her helmet. I didn't know why Colton told to follow whatever my little sister told me to do, but I found myself listening to him and was ready for anything. When she announced that we were going to be rogues from that point forward I knew that this was going to be one fun ride. As we drove off into the night I found myself pulling up next to her and tapping on her shoulder. When she looked over to me I tapped my helmet to tell her to turn on her mic so we could talk. She nodded and reached up to turn on her mic and then I do the same.

"Hey sis are you ok? Do we need to stop of a little bit so you can get it all out of your system?" I asked her knowing that talking to me would really help both of us. Being her older twin I know just what she needed and always try to make sure that she is taken care of.

"Let's try to get a little further away from the pack first. I know that we only have a little amount of time before we have to shift for the first time and I don't want to be anywhere near the pack when that happens. Are you ok with that?" Crystal's voice came over sounding like she just finished crying. She was trying to sound strong but I could hear the slight waver in it that let me know that she was scared out of her mind. 

"Sure thing little one but I think we should stop at a gas station so we can fill up our bikes and all of our extra gas cans ok. We don't know how far we are planning to go and we should be prepare for anything." She nodded and agreed and so we turned into the closest gas station. I got of my bike and told her to stay here with the bikes and that I would take care of everything. She handed me one of the manilla envelopes that our father had placed into her backpack before we took off. It had a bunch of cash in it so we wouldn't have to leave a paper trail wherever we went. I went inside and paid for the gas that we needed. It was then that I noticed that we were no longer anywhere near our families pack. We had driven so fast that we were now in the lands of the royal family.

    As I walked up to fill up our gas tanks and gas cans, I noticed that Crystal had taken off her helmet and her jacket. I started to fill the gas cans first and then I filled her gas tank. As I started to fill up my bike I walked over to her and pulled her into a big hug. As she hugged me I felt the front of my shirt get wet. She was crying again just like I thought she would. I just held her tight and let her cry. 

    Ever since we were kids she always tried to show everyone that she wasn't this little delicate thing that needed to be handled with care. She was the top female warrior in the pack whereas I was the top male warrior. Our skills only makes us always want to compete with one another but at the same time we could only help the other grow even stronger. When we were born our mother wanted to make sure to give me the name of steel because she wanted me to know that I was going to be this big strong unbreakable warrior. However she named Crystal as this fine china because she wanted her to be this fine elegant woman and boy was she upset that little sis wanted nothing to do with being some lady in waiting. She was fierce and I knew she could do anything she wanted in the world.

    As the bell dinged letting me know that my tank was full, I let her go and went to pull the nozzle out and replaced it. Turning to her I finally told her what I found out. "Hey kiddo just so you know we are nowhere near the family anymore." She looked at me with a surprised look and I continued, "It turns out that we have been out of the territory for quite a while now. We are now in the royal lands and I think that we can safely find a place for our transformation without having to worry about the wrong people finding us." Nodding Crystal pulled her helmet back on and kicked her bike to life. "Ok Steel let's go see if we can find a place out in the woods. I can feel the pain that comes with the first shift coming on and I kind of want to see what we look like don't you." Nodding to her words I climbed onto my bike and kicked it on as well and we took off to find a good spot for our first shift.

----A couple hours later-------

    We finally found a secluded campground in the middle of the forest where we felt safe to make the shift. We unloaded all of our camping things that we had packed and set up as quickly as possible. I was incredibly happy that we remembered to both pack our camping stuff knowing that this might be an exceedingly difficult time for both of us. Not long after I had started the campfire, Crystal started to yell out in pain as the shift started for her. I ran up to her trying to help her get out of her clothes so she wouldn't shred them when I was hit with the most terrifying pain run through my body. As we both started to strip our clothes off, we were panting with all the pain that was going through our bodies. 

"Remember Steel what your father always told you about the shift," Colton's voice came into focus as I was running behind a tree for the shift, "Don't fight it. If you relax it will not hurt as badly and it will go so much smoother. That's it buddy calm your breathing and close your eyes and try to envision me in your mind. You got this!" With that being said I did exactly what he had said to do. I closed my eyes and calmed my breathing. As I felt myself start to relax I searched my mind for the form of my wolf. Standing tall in my mind was one of the most majestic wolves I have ever seen in my life. As I stood there envisioning him I felt myself start to shift. My bones started to crack and morph into the form that I had seen and within minutes I found myself standing on all fours. Looking down I saw the purest white fur covering my paws. Looking up I saw a pond not far from where I was and walked over to it to see what I looked like and I have to say I was amazed.

    Staring back at me was not the brown eyes with golden flecks that I have in my human form but the most blues eyes that almost looked like diamonds. My entire body was completely white except for three things that made me gasp in surprise. On my chest was a heart in midnight blue, across my side was a neon green sword and at my hip was the elemental sign for fire in orange. All of these items point to one thing that I had only heard of in stories. Growing up our father always made sure that Crystal and I knew of the stories of the brave elemental queen and her elemental warrior. It was said that the warrior was a person in the queen's life that would do anything to protect her even if it meant giving up their life for her. It was also said that the queen would one day come back in times of need and that with her would be her warrior. You would know them from the distinct marking on their fur whenever they were in wolf form. The warrior will always have a sword on his ribcage in his favorite color and the queen's crown will always be in her favorite color.

    Turning around quickly I take to the tree that I had left Crystal behind. I knew that she had to be the next elemental queen and I needed to make sure that she was ok. When I reached the tree I stopped gasping at the sight in front of me. Standing in front of me was my sister's wolf and she was an amazing sight to see before me. Crystal's wolf was pure white just like Colton but her markings were that of a queen. Across her chest was a royal purple heart, across her forehead was a hot pink crown and on her hip was the elemental symbol for water in aqua blue. Her eyes trained on me and I found myself mesmerized by the hot pink eyes that were looking back at me. Even in wolf form I found myself bowing in front of my beautiful sister letting her know that her form was one that I would always respect and protect for the rest of my days.

"Steel what are you doing? Never bow to me brother. I will always see you as an equal no matter what happens to us. I can't believe that we are the elemental queen and warrior that father used to tell us about. Do you think that father may have had an idea about what was going on? Maybe that is why he said that one day he would find us and was not angry when we revealed that we had 3 different colors in our hair." Crystal exclaimed making me smile that her mind was doing ok with all of this. "Whoa whoa whoa speedy calm down. I don't know if dad knew about what we were. I certainly hope that we do get to see him again someday little one. Ok now I need to know something. What is your wolfs name? As we know that all of the queens have a name that is similar to a gemstone. So what is yours?" I looked at her actually excited to know the name of the queen wolf that I was to protect. "Her name is Saphira and she is a blessing brother. She was patient with me and helps so much and......." Suddenly she started to sniff the air and was looking at me with wide eyes. I started to sniff the air as well and all that I could smell was the loveliest smell that was a mixture of hot chocolate and cinnamon. My mate was nearby I could tell and I was more than excited to see her. I looked over at Crystal and she was still sniffing the air like she couldn't get enough of a certain scent. 

"Little one what do you smell? Are you ok?" I asked her and she looked at me I knew what she was about to say, "Steel I think my mate is nearby. I smell a mixture of lilies and fresh rain and all I wanna do is find where it is coming from."

"I know what you mean I can smell my mate too. Come on lets go pack and hid the bikes and then go search for them ok? Once we find them we will come back for our stuff ok?" Nodding we both shift back, get our clothes back on and head over to our campsite. As we were almost done putting our stuff away, the smells started to get stronger and soon they started to overpower our senses. Crystal and I both turn around to where the scents were coming from and were met with the faces of 3 people. Standing there was the prince and 2 women just staring at us. One of the women was in a protective stance in front of the prince as he stood there staring at my little sister as the other woman stood there staring at me like I was a piece of candy that she wanted before anyone else. I looked into her eyes and as I did so Colton started to go crazy in my head.

"MATE! THAT IS OUR MATE! CAN WE GO TO HER PLEASE? I WANT TO HOLD HER SO BADLY!" Colton started to yell in my head. I told him to calm down and give us a minute. We needed to make sure that Crystal would be ok first before we go to our mate. After he agreed with me and calmed down I turn to Crystal and place my hand on her shoulder. As she looked at me I heard 2 separate growls coming from my mate and the prince. Ignoring them because I was about to put their jealousy to rest I looked at Crystal and said "Little sis are you ok? I am right here with you no matter what ok? If you are scared tell me and I will help you no matter what. That is what brothers and protectors are for am I right?" Nodding Crystal looked at me and then at the Prince. Looking back at me she answered me in a low voice, "I'm ok bubba. I will always near me cause with you I will always be safe. However I know for a fact that my mate will never hurt me. Go to your mate bubba, I'll be ok. Plus I really want to go over to my mate now." Nodding I turn to the 3 waiting for us to finish our conversation. Both my mate and the prince had sorry looks on their faces now that they realized that we were siblings and not a couple.

"Stand down Kaylee. I think we are all good now. Plus I really wanna hold my mate." The prince said as he placed a hand onto my mate and the other woman who was standing guard in front of him. Kaylee, who was the woman that was standing in front of the prince, stood up and stepped behind my mate and the prince. As soon as she did, I dashed over to my mate and stood in front of her. She was the most beautiful thing. She was slightly shorter then me and had long golden-brown hair with streaks of sea foam green and deep forest green throughout it. She looked at me with the most loving deep green eyes and said in a loud clear voice, "Mate." Softly growling I took her into my arms and held her close sniffing her scent like it was my lifeline. "What is your name beautiful?" I asked her as she snuggled close to me. " Izabella" she answered breathless as she too was inhaling my scent like it was a fresh bouquet of flowers. "Izabella, so beautiful. My name is Steel and I promise to love you always." 

    Sighing I put Iza down and wrapped my arms around her front and looked over at my sister to make sure that she was ok. Crystal was over by the prince and he was holding his hand on her cheek while looking at her with an adoring look on his face. "What is your name, Little one?" He said in a soft tone that made my little sister just melt. "Crystal, my name is Crystal" She answered in an extremely low voice that made the prince purr with nothing but love. "Hello Crystal. I cannot tell you how happy I am to find you. I am Apollo the prince of the werewolves and I promise to love you always." With that Crystal jumped into his arms and hugged him as tight as she could and refused to let go or so it seemed. After a little bit she jumped down and stood in front of him as Iza was standing in front of me. Smiling at my sister's flushed face, I lead my mate over to them and placed my hand out to the prince.

"Hi, I am Crystal's twin brother and guardian warrior. My name is Steel." Shaking my hand Apollo chuckled softly. "Sorry for growling earlier. I didn't know that you were siblings but now that I do, it is good to know that my queen has a good guardian watching after her. Kaylee come here," Kaylee came over and she looked relieved knowing that no harm was going to come to anyone, "This is my Beta Kaylee. She is very protective of me and Izabella. We were told that there were 2 wolves here in the woods and my father asked the 3 of us to investigate. Imagine his surprise when we come back with our mates in tow. Well come, finish packing your things and follow us to the castle. We need to get some food in you 2 and I am sure that you guys are tired." Nodding Crystal and I turn to finish our packing, Kaylee cleared her throat and we turned to her to see what she had to say.

"How long have you guys had your wolves? Just wondering that's all" She asked with a smile on her face.

Crystal turned to her with a knowing smile, "Today was our first shift. Today is our 16th birthday and when we revealed ourselves to our pack we had to take off right away. They all thought that we were sirens and were ashamed by us. Well everyone except our father. He is the current alpha of our pack and he is always there for us." 

"Who is your father, Angel? I will bring him to us so you may see him again" Apollo asked as he held Crystal close to him.

"Our father is Alpha John Silvermist of the Silvermist Cove Pack. We are his middle children after Raylynn and right before Godric our little brother." She said in a clear voice. Apollo stepped back a step while holding her hand still. "You are John's kids that he is looking for? Oh my goodness we definitely need to get you guys to the castle! He is waiting there for you guys right now. Come on get on your bikes and follow Kaylee I'll ride with Crystal and Izabella you ride with Steel. I hope your bikes can go on dirt roads because they are the fastest ways that we can get to the castle!" Kaylee went behind a tree and shifted as me and Crystal got on our bikes. 

"Oh shot I forgot that we don't have extra helmets for you guys. Will you guys be ok without ....." Crystal suddenly burst out but stopped when Apollo kissed her. "Angel we will be fine, plus when the gate guards see me and Izabella on the bikes they will have no choice but to let us in ok. Now go baby I trust you completely." And with that we were all off to the castle following right behind Kaylee.
