The Pull

Chapter 4: The Pull Lily wasn’t sure when it happened, but over the next few weeks, Blake’s presence in her life began to shift. He still mocked her, still made her feel small with his sharp, biting remarks, but somewhere in the middle of all the insults, Lily found herself watching him. His arrogance, his confidence—everything about him intrigued her. One evening, she was walking across campus after a late study session when she saw him again. Blake was standing by the entrance to the student union, talking to a group of friends, his voice carrying across the open space. Lily couldn’t help but notice the way everyone around him seemed to hang on his every word. He was the center of attention, the king of his little world. And yet, something about the way he carried himself made Lily wonder if that was all just an act. Behind the cocky smile and cold demeanor, she caught glimpses of something darker, something... vulnerable. As she walked past him, her heart raced in a way she couldn’t explain. For a moment, their eyes locked, and she saw it—just a flicker, but enough to leave her breathless. A challenge, an invitation, or maybe even something deeper. She wasn’t sure. But as she passed, she heard him call out, just low enough for her to hear. "Don’t be so shy, Walker. I’m starting to think you like this little game we’re playing." Lily froze, her back straightening. Was he right? Did she like it? Was she starting to enjoy the way he made her feel—small, insignificant, yet oddly powerful in her own way? She didn’t know. But she wasn’t about to admit it. Not yet.
