Now I knew that I was commanded to gaze into that cup and to say what things I saw. So I set it on the ground in front of me and kneeling, threw my veil over it and gazed into the water in the shallow golden cup. For a little while I saw nothing, till presently a face formed in the water, the face of the royal lady, Amenartas, which stared up at me out of the cup.
