Stuck With The Wrong Bride

Rowan's POV " Good morning Mr Sinclair" Philip, my butler and trusted friend greeted me as I walked down the stairs. I responded with a slight nod as I approached the dinning room for breakfast. The past few days had been very overwhelming for me with work and yesterday was no exception, the least that could happen to me was to be presented with a good meal. I got to the dinning table only to find no one there. " Where's Celine?" I asked Philip who was following me from behind " She's not here sir" He replied me I looked at him with a puzzled expression on my face and then asked sharply " what do you mean she's not here?" I saw how uncomfortable he was as he responded to my questions " She left the house very early this morning" he replied me As soon as his words registered into my brain, I let out a laugh of disbelief. Really? Is this about yesterday? What sort of game is she trying to play now? A thousand and one questions ran through my mind as I thought about it. I had gotten home very late last night only for her to announce that she wanted a divorce. I was taken by surprise but was careful enough not to let it show. I have never shown her any form of emotions and I wasn't about to start that. I knew deep down that she was just trying to seek sympathy and attention. I shouldn't be the one she should be resenting, I mean I was also a victim. It is not my fault that her family made her walk down the aisle in place of her step sister. I tried to sit at the table for breakfast but it didn't feel right. For the past 2 years I had always had breakfast with Celine at the table even though we never said a word to eachother. " Did she mention where she was headed?" I asked Philip " Not at all .......she didn't even go with her car " Philip explained I frowned at the information. Where on earth could she have gone to? Her parents house? She should know better than to go there, they wouldn't even think twice about sending her back! " Call her parents and find out if she's there. Let me know as soon as you find her" I blurted out to him as I retreated backwards. " I am going to skip breakfast today " With that I walked out of the house. I had more important things to worry about. Just then, my phone buzzed. It was another message from my grandfather's assistant. A reminder of the board meeting in few days. It was another push to prove myself. My position as the company's CEO was hanging by a thread thanks to my grandfather's obsession with legacy and my cousin, Jothan Sinclair who had charm, a perfect bloodline and apparently, my grandfather's approval. I clenched my jaw as I got into the car waiting for me. Illegitimate. That word followed me like a brand. It was a reminder of what I was born from and what I had to fight twice as hard to protect. It was bad enough that they made me set a wedding date despite the accident that landed me in a wheelchair two years ago, now they were threatening to remove me from the position if I didn't secure a deal worth hundreds of billions. Grandpa Ben's voice rang in my head as my driver drove me to the office. " This is your chance to prove your worth Rowan, secure this deal then the position is yours to keep" A smirk appeared at the corner of my lips. Both he and Jothan seemed to have forgotten who they were dealing with. I am Rowan Sinclair and I never back out without a fight. I was ready to go through any length to secure the deal, which is why I was back in contact with Emilia. Emilia Dunphy. My ex fiancée. The same Emilia that vanished the morning we were supposed to get married. My thoughts were interrupted by my driver. " We're here now sir" I watched as he opened the door for me. Waiting at the entrance of the Sinclair building was my assistant, Matt. " Good morning Mr Sinclair" he greeted I replied him with a slight nod as I walked into the building with everyone saying their hello's and clearing the way for me to pass through. " The representatives from Hong Kong are already waiting for you" Matt started as he followed behind me " I thought the meeting was supposed to be for 10am?" I glanced at my wristwatch as I spoke " Apparently they moved it to 9am" Matt replied "That's fine....where are they?" I asked as I stepped into the private elevator " I already had them settled in the conference room" he replied. By the time we got to the 39th floor, the doors to the elevator opened as I walked straight into the Conference room. " Good morning everyone......I had no Idea that the time of our meeting was moved to 9" I announced as soon as I stepped in. " We apologize for that.......an emergency came up and we have to be out of the United States as soon as possible. " One of the representatives said as he rose to his feet. " Sam Choo, we spoke on the phone already " he introduced as he stretched his hand for a shake " Rowan Sinclair, good to finally meet you" I placed my hand in his firmly " This is my associate, Li Fong " Sam Choo gestures to the other man at the table. " Pleasure to meet you" I said as I shook Li Fong's hand " Glad to be here " Li fong replies as I then took my seat opposite them. " And ofcourse...Ms Dunphy" Sam Choo said as he gestures to Emilia " No need for an introduction for me, we go way back" Emilia said to him as she locked eyes with me. I had no idea that she was going to join the meeting but I couldn't complain. She is the sole reason why this meeting is even happening in the first place. She had helped me secure an audience with them despite my numerous trials, that is why she is now a valuable asset to the company. " We have gone through the proposal that you sent and I think it is something that we would like to venture into" Sam Choo started. I let out a small sigh of relief as the words left his mouth. This was going way easier than I thought it would. " ...but only on one condition" he continued Okay I knew this was too good to be true. " What is this condition?" I asked out loud " The first half of the project would be carried out in HongKong...... in as much as we have faith in this project, we also want to be rest assured that it is in good hands " He explained I remained silent for a few seconds as I processed his words. " But it is going to take months to reach the half of the project" I argued " We understand, that is why we want it done in HongKong " he explained and then asked. " Is this going to be a problem?" " Ofcourse not....... it's a done deal" I blurted out without giving it much thought anymore. If spending a few months in HongKong the sacrifice I've got to make for this project, then so be it. " I will have my lawyers draft out the contract so we can sign" I added " That is perfect then....we look forward to doing business with you Mr Sinclair " Sam Choo stated out loud. " You should buy me dinner after this you know " Emilia said to me as soon as we saw the representatives off " Ofcourse, I'd ask my assistant to reserve the finest restaurant for you" I replied without sparing her a single glance. " Oh Rowan don't be silly, you don't expect me to eat alone now do you?" She leaned onto my arm as she spoke. " You heard the men Emilia. I don't have time to spare, I need to start preparing for HongKong " I replied her as I released myself from her grip. " Really?.....is this the thank you I get for going out of my way for you?" She pouted her lips as she spoke. " Fine...... just one meal " I replied hesitantly As soon as I stepped into the 39th floor, Matt approached me. " A package arrived for you sir" he started " I don't have time for any packages Matt, I have a business trip to plan for " I blurted out firmly as I walked into my office " I understand sir, but I still think that you should see it" He urged Without wasting anymore time, I picked up the envelope placed on my desk and then glanced through the document. My eyes immediately widened as I spotted the words divorce. Is this some sort of joke? I was immediately filled with rage especially when my eyes landed on Celine's signature. How dare she send me divorce papers? What gave her the nerve to do such a thing? I immediately dailed Celine's phone number but was immediately sent to voicemail. I dailed it again but got the same respone. I was getting impatient at this point so I dailed Philip's phone instead. He answered on the first ring. " Tell me you've found her" I stated " Not yet sir.....I called her parents house but they haven't seen her either" he replied " Where the hell is she then?" I asked with anger starting to build up in me. " I am leaving for HongKong, make sure you have her waiting for me by the time I return." I blurted out to him. Only I had the right to end this marriage. With that being established, I picked up the divorce papers and placed them into the shredder in my office.
