CHAPTER 29: The Man In The Night The door creaked open but only a little—just enough for a shadow to slip through. The figure moved noiselessly and sure. Every step was measured and deliberate. In his hand he held a small knife with a dull shimmer. The edge had been smeared with a thin layer of poison—deadly and fast. He paused just inside the doorway waiting. Nothing came.. not even the faint sound of breathing. Perfect.. The figure adjusted his black hood and took another step forward. His boots made no sound on the rug.
