A knock echoed in my office.
“Enter,” I called.
Calliope entered, and my heart immediately began to race when I saw her, but she kept her eyes down, placed a note in front of me, then turned and was on her way out again. She had been acting like this the last few days: quieter. Didn’t spending time together mean our bond would grow stronger? Hadn’t our date gone well?
I leaned back, tapping a finger against the table. How could I get her to open up to me? That was when I noticed the note on the table. I had a meeting scheduled for today. An idea sparked in my mind as I gathered my things before going to find Calliope. She sat at her desk, hunched over, seemingly lost in thought, but she heard me approaching and turned to give me her full attention.
“Working hard?” I asked.
