She snaps her head up, blinking, before a deep frown creases her face. “Rude much?” Her voice carries a husky undertone, as if she’s accustomed to speaking in hushed manners. “We’re about to close.” I say, hoping she will take the hint. From the way she nods and scrutinizes the menu, it’s clear she understands my message, but after another quick glance outside, she chooses to disregard it. “Can I get a latte, please?” Is she serious? I glance at the clock and mentally groan. It’s not like I had any grand plans for the evening, unless reheating the lunch my mom packed for me and calling it dinner counts as excitement.
