When I woke up slightly hungover the next morning, Boone’s side of our bed was empty. In fact, it looked like it hadn’t been slept in. I tried to force myself to think that was because he and the guys had been out all night reveling in the good news about the quipus, but I failed in my attempt. Something was wrong. I needed to clear my head before I faced whatever that was, so I took a shower, got dressed, and beelined for the coffee pot in the kitchen via the back staircase.
