Back at the house, I went to find Beattie, not because I was particularly sad but because I wanted her to know and because I was a little puzzled by my reaction. It had been the same with my last boyfriend, Adaire. The breakup had been sad, but I hadn’t had any major reaction emotionally. It just seemed odd. Beattie, as I expected, was completely supportive, affirmed all I was feeling, and told me I wasn’t weird at all. Maybe I just didn’t have big feelings about Boone, she suggested, and I decided she was right. I hadn’t had big feelings, but even that felt a little unsettling. Still, I didn’t want to dwell on myself. “But the other news is that Moira might be the murderer.” I hadn’t meant to be quite that blunt with it, but there it was. “What? Why do we think that? What don’t I know?
