Elara's Pov
The forest was alive with energy. Every rustle of leaves, every whisper of the wind seemed to echo the fire coursing through me. My power had grown since yesterday, but controlling it was still like trying to hold a storm in my hands.
I trained beside the white wolf, the creature watching my every move with piercing golden eyes. “Focus,” I whispered to myself. “Control it. Don’t let it control you.”
I concentrated, feeling the warmth in my chest pulse outward. Sparks danced along my fingers again, but this time, I directed them carefully toward a tree trunk. The bark glowed faintly, as if responding to my energy.
Suddenly, a rustling sound came from the bushes. I froze, heart hammering. Another wolf? An intruder? My instincts screamed danger, and my body reacted. Energy surged violently, and a wave of force knocked me back, throwing me onto the mossy ground.
From the shadows stepped a tall, muscular figure. Unlike the white wolf, this presence was threatening, sharp. Amber eyes glinted with a mixture of curiosity and challenge.
“So… this is the rejected mate,” the figure said, voice deep and commanding. “You think you are strong, but strength is more than sparks and flames.”
I scrambled to my feet, chest heaving. “I will control this. I have to. I’m not weak!”
The figure smirked. “Then prove it. Survive the next hour, and maybe you’ll learn. Fail… and you’ll learn the hard way.”
Energy surged in my chest, hotter and more violent than ever. I clenched my fists, sparks flying as I prepared for whatever challenge was coming. The white wolf stood behind me, growling low, as if warning the figure to think twice.
The next hour became a blur of motion. Shadows lunged, trees seemed to twist, and I had to react instinctively. Each movement forced my power to grow, to stretch, to expand in ways I hadn’t expected. Pain and exhilaration mixed until I could barely tell the difference.
And just when I thought I couldn’t hold on any longer… the figure stepped back, hands raised.
“Enough,” it said. “You survived your first test. But this… is only the beginning.”
My chest heaved as I sank to my knees, exhausted, sweat mingling with dirt and tears. My power was stronger, yes—but it had a will of its own now, demanding more than I could control.
I looked up at the white wolf, who nudged me gently, as if saying: You’re ready. But not yet complete.
A thrill of anticipation and fear pulsed in my veins. I was alive, more alive than ever… and I knew the Alpha King would never recognize me if he saw what I was becoming.
But even as I thought this, a cold whisper brushed through my mind: He’s coming. Sooner than you think.
