Unwell

She was going to kill them, Amy thought as she made her way to the Nurses station a few weeks later. She had asked that the nurses remain scared, but this was getting out of hand. She had spent more time cleaning up their sloppy mistakes, then she tried to help Drake cope with the vampires. The worst part was that she knew for a fact, that Drake was becoming more comfortable with his current patients. She heard them all laughing just the other day. He was almost ready.      Seeing the new girl, Misty, standing at the desk had Amy sighing with relief. She honestly didn’t know if she could take any of the others just yet. This recent mess was going to cost her time, and a nurse; both of which she was quickly running out of.    ***   The more time he spent with these people meant the more time he got to spend with Amy, and that, Drake thought, was worth listening to any nut. He was drawn to her, and he couldn’t help himself. He found that he enjoyed watching her for no reason other than she fascinated him. Everything about her called to him, but most especially her eyes. Deep, purple that would hold him captivated with a look. He wanted her.      Just the thinking about her, had Drake shifting uncomfortably. From the first time he met her, Drake had been attracted to her and the more he worked with her the more the attraction grew. He knew he was becoming a silent stalker, but every time he saw her, he found himself stuck in place so that he could watch her.      Something inside him kept calling out to her, almost making her magically appear. Drake stood in the shadows of the hall and watched as she bounced to the Nurses Desk, clip board in hand, and an aggravated look on her face. He couldn’t tell what she said but the new girl laughed lightly in response, causing Amy to visibly cool down.        ***   She felt him, before he even spoke. Turning her head, she raised her eyes slowly to meet his, a warm smile playing across her face. “Misty, I’ll speak with you later, thank you.” She said dismissing the other girl, who took her cue and left.    “Amy, I was hoping for a moment.” Drake said sounding little hoarse. “Really? What can I do for you?” she asked softly.     Clearing his throat from the sudden dryness he spoke. “I was wondering if you gave Mrs. Henderson anything for her tremors.”   Amy stared in surprise, no one had ever noticed that she had tremors. “We’ve been giving her this.” she breathed out handing him a bottle out of her pocket.    Drake read the label then glanced at Amy. “Primidone?” he asked raising his gaze to meet hers.    “It’s a laced version.” She told, looking away from him Drake looked the bottle over one last time then handed it back to her.   “I really would have suggested Propranolol but if this is working...”   “It seemed to be. But if you’ve noticed the tremors then it may be getting worse.” Amy admitted.   “Instead of changing her on meds, why not, for right keep her on Primidone. Let’s just up the dosage a little.” Drake told taking out a small tablet and writing something down.   “That seems like it could work.” Amy replied drifting closer to his shoulder.   “Have dinner with me.”   “What?” Amy asked stepping back.   “Have dinner with me. I would really like to take out.” Drake ripped the paper off and handed it to her. Seeing the shocked look on her face he cut in quickly. “Look, you don’t have to answer now, but I would really like to get to know you, outside of the whole work thing.” He smiled a lopsided grin, tapped the tablet on the counter and left her standing there.      Swallowing hard, Amy blindly felt behind her for a chair so that she could sit. I’d really like to get to know you, he’d said. Blinking rapidly, she felt a flutter. Maybe dinner wouldn’t be so bad, she thought and got back to work.     After writing some orders she reached for the piece of paper Drake had left with her, when it dawned on her that he hadn’t even ask what the drug was laced with. Maybe it really was time for him to start with the next phase. Signing the new order, she sat it to the side and went in search of her next project.     ****       Leeza sat on her bed with her head against the wall and her eyes closed. A book that she had been trying to read sat open on her lap. Though she loved to read, Leeza just couldn’t seem to concentrate. So many things continued to run wild in her mind. “Come in Amy,” she said softly not bothering to open her eyes.   “Can we talk?” the nurse asked, moving to stand by the bed.   “What about?” Leeza asked cracking her eyes open just a hair.   “Drake”   “No.” Leeza replied tilting her head to the side.   “Lee, I believe it’s time.” Amy pleaded with the girl.   “Well, we don’t believe he is ready.” Leeza said looking up at her.     Amy considered her for only a moment then straightened up. “Who is we, Lee?” she asked knowing the answer as Leeza turned her head away quickly.   “Seriously, Amy, how can he be ready when he still looks at us like we’re a bunch of freaks and killers?”    Amy almost laughed at Leeza’s statement but she kept herself in check. “Lee,” Amy stated calmly “you are a bunch of killers, and well as far as freaks go. Look at Micael.”      Rolling her eyes at Amy’s sense of hummer she chuckled, “You’re right. Micael is defiantly a freak. But what about the rest of us?” she asked.   “He is trying, I can see it.” Amy told her honestly.    Leeza remained still for a moment. “If we don’t try then we’ll never succeed.” Leeza whispered to herself. Amy watched silently as Leeza fought the same internal battle, that she often fought. This was the reason she chose the girl to come to, Amy thought as she sat there waiting for some sign.    “Lee?” Amy whispered questioning her decision. When Amy began to stand Leeza shook her head pointedly. “What? I was going to take you to him.” Amy explained straightening up.   “No, to trust us, he will have to willingly listen and if you go with me...” Leeza trailed off.      Amy was always surprised by the insight Leeza seemed to always have. The girl knew and fully understood what was being asked of her, and she was willingly going to put herself out there. Before Leeza made it out the door Amy called to her once last piece of instruction, “Take him to the conservatory.” Leeza gave a sullen nod then headed off to do her part.
