"In wolf society," she explains, "The only thing worse than a human is a witch." She then tells me about some of the terrible things that used to happen in Crescent City. "It's gotten so much better since the President outlawed the witch hunts."
She then goes on to explain why she refused the gift of me purchasing the apartment for her. "It was purchased with wolf money. Money that is often earned on the backs of witches. I don't hate wolves," she clarifies, "And I'm happy for you and Alpha Sylvester, but having a wolf even partly in control of where we live is terrifying."
"Why do they hate us so much?" I ask, thinking about Sly and how he will react once he knows the truth.
