Chapter 19

1122 Words
The night sky stretched over the sleepy coastal town, the wind carrying the scent of salt and brine through the air. The coffee shop lights flickered softly in the distance, illuminating the sidewalk just enough to make out the silhouette of a black sedan parked nearby. The sound of waves crashing against the shore echoed from the beach, where Bonnie, the eccentric beach owner, was still lingering, her laughter barely audible as she stumbled over the sand in her own drunken haze. But it wasn’t Bonnie that Variety was concerned about tonight. Her attention was wholly fixed on Knight, her boss. Stumbling, unsteady, and undeniably drunk, Knight leaned heavily on her arm as they made their way towards the car. “You're so careless, Knight," Variety purred, her voice tinged with a flirtatious lilt as she guided him forward. Her eyes gleamed with a predatory satisfaction, her true motives shimmering just beneath her carefully composed facade. Her grip on his arm was firm, but there was an unmistakable tenderness to the way she guided him—tenderness that hinted at her desires. "You always think you can handle it, but look at you now." Knight, trying to regain a semblance of control, squinted at her through bleary eyes. He straightened up, or at least attempted to, before his body betrayed him, swaying dangerously to the side. “I can still manage,” he slurred, a half-hearted chuckle escaping his lips. "I don’t need help... I’ll make it home." Variety’s smile widened slightly, the corners of her lips curving upward in a way that sent a shiver down Knight’s spine—not because he was cold, but because of the intensity in her eyes. She had always been alluring, that much was clear, but there was something different about her tonight. Something hungry. “No, no, Knight,” she cooed softly, her hand trailing ever so slightly down his arm. “You’re in no condition to drive. Let me take care of you tonight. I’ll drive you home, nice and slow. Safely.” The word 'safely' dripped with a sultry tone, one that made it clear she had much more than just his physical well-being in mind. Knight shook his head, trying to clear the fog in his mind. But the alcohol had already dulled his senses too much, making it difficult for him to gauge just how much control he actually had. Every step felt like he was sinking further into the sand, unsteady and unsure. Despite his protests, he was aware that Variety was right; he couldn’t drive like this. “You don’t need to…” he murmured, his words trailing off as Variety led him to the passenger side of the sedan. His legs felt like jelly beneath him, and it was only by her support that he managed to stay upright. Variety leaned in closer, her lips dangerously close to his ear as she whispered, “Oh, but I insist. Tonight, you’re mine, Knight. I’ll take care of everything… and maybe you’ll start craving something more than just the comfort of your bed.” There was a sultry edge to her voice now, her intentions no longer hidden behind the veil of professionalism she usually wore. Without waiting for a response, she gently but firmly guided him into the passenger seat, her fingers brushing against his chest in a way that felt far too intimate for what should have been a simple gesture of assistance. Knight, his mind clouded with alcohol and his body weak from exhaustion, couldn’t muster the strength to resist. He sank into the seat with a groan, his head lolling back as the world around him spun. Variety closed the door with a soft click, her lips twitching into a satisfied smirk as she circled around to the driver’s side. She slid into the seat with ease, her hands gripping the steering wheel with the confidence of someone who knew exactly what they wanted and how to get it. The engine purred to life, the black sedan gliding out of the parking lot with barely a sound. As they drove, the rhythmic hum of the engine filled the silence between them. The soft glow of the dashboard illuminated Knight’s face, highlighting the way his eyelids drooped as he struggled to stay conscious. The alcohol was winning, dragging him deeper into a stupor, and Variety knew it. Her gaze flickered over to him every so often, watching the way his chest rose and fell with each shallow breath. The corners of her mouth twitched upward again. She had waited for this moment for far too long. Knight, the stoic, distant, and ever-professional boss, was finally vulnerable. He was finally within her grasp. For years, Variety had been by his side, playing the role of the dutiful secretary. She had watched as he built his empire, admired his strength and his ambition, and fantasized about what it would be like to have him to herself. But Knight had always kept a professional distance, never once giving in to the flirtations that she had so carefully disguised as harmless banter. But tonight was different. Tonight, he was hers. The alcohol had stripped away his walls, leaving him exposed, and Variety had no intention of letting this opportunity slip away. The road stretched out before them, dark and winding, with only the headlights of the sedan cutting through the night. Knight’s home wasn’t far, but Variety wasn’t in any rush. She kept the car at a steady, leisurely pace, her mind already racing with the possibilities of what could happen once they arrived. “Are you comfortable, Knight?” she asked softly, her voice dripping with faux concern. “You’re looking a little pale. Maybe you should rest your head. Don’t worry—I’ll take good care of you.” Knight mumbled something incoherent in response, his head lolling to the side as he tried—and failed—to keep his eyes open. He was losing the battle against the alcohol, and Variety knew it. Her smile widened as she reached over, her hand brushing against his thigh under the guise of adjusting his seatbelt. She lingered just a moment too long, her fingers tracing the fabric of his pants with a featherlight touch. Knight shifted in his seat, but he was too far gone to fully register what was happening. Variety’s heart raced in her chest, the anticipation building with every passing second. She had him right where she wanted him—helpless, pliable, and completely at her mercy. The rest of the drive passed in a blur. The town gave way to sprawling estates, the homes growing larger and more opulent as they neared Knight’s residence.
