Chapter 14 “We Umbrans inhabit a large planet, yet through filament technology, we can monitor each other easily.” – Empress Janais, The Fifth Age of Umbra I step through drift void and onto a stretch of Umbra’s Charcoal Mountains. The area I’ve entered sits at the bottom of a steep crevasse. All around me, gray rock juts up toward a pale blue sky. There’s nothing green or growing as far as the eye can see. In some ways, it reminds me of versions of reality where humans colonize the moon. A small ranch house lays nestled in the deepest part of the valley. There’s no one else around for miles. The building is a one-story affair made of stout round rocks held together with heavy masonry. An arched wooden roof tops the structure. Here it is. Truman Archer’s home. Rose groans in my arms.
