The sound of raised voices in the hallway drifted into the room again, and I couldn’t help but wonder just how long it would take before mom's ranting finally settled. My patience was running thin, but at the same time, a small part of me appreciated how Gabriel handled her. There was a calmness to his presence, as if he knew exactly how to navigate her storm without letting it break him. I finished the sandwich Jenna had brought me and leaned back, letting the food settle in my stomach. Despite how tired I felt, my mind raced with all the unanswered questions.
