April Sanders
I opened my eyes. I scanned the room, trying to look for the alpha king. I could still recall the way my wolf growled when she felt his presence. The urge for him to wrap his hands around me and to be close to me—the urge to have him around me—was strong.
I can't seem to find him on the bed, but a tray of food was left on the bed. I felt my stomach growl, and I also noticed a note left on the bed.
"Please have breakfast prepared by me," he wrote. I felt my cheeks burn as I read the note. I could recall the way he stared at me with so many emotions in his eyes. I couldn't seem to think straight; everything was still so overwhelming that it made my heart beat rapidly faster than the normal pace.
I ate the food as I went outside to get some fresh air, and that was when I heard the voice of the alpha king. He was talking to someone else, and it managed to pique my curiosity.
I took steady steps towards the entrance where I had heard his voice, and then I saw him talking to a man whose face I couldn't properly see because he was wearing a set of dark clothes. He looked very dangerous, yet familiar in a way I couldn't comprehend.
"Bring her to me right now," he said.
"I can't because she's not here with me."
"Don't lie to me, Gabriel; you know I can feel the presence of a silver wolf even from afar."
'Oh, so his name is Gabriel?' I thought inwardly.
"She's not here with me; please just give me more time; I'll bring her to you in three days." Gabriel pleaded.
"Don't play with my intelligence, young man; I know she's here; if you don't bring her to me, with just one phone call, all your three thousand men will be dead." He said it domineeringly.
"Please, give me a little more time; she'll come to meet you tomorrow," Gabriel pleaded. He lowered his face. I still can't see the faces of the men Gabriel was talking to.
The man immediately stood up and said, "I'm expecting her tomorrow, your dog; if I don't see her tomorrow, please accept the bodies of your three thousand men." He snarled as he stood up. He was pissed even at the sound of his voice.
When he was gone, I went to meet Gabriel. For the first time, I saw a weak man, not the stoic or cold man I saw yesterday; he was broken and torn.
"Who were they talking about?" I asked. When he saw me, he immediately held my hand as he dragged me to a more secluded room. He possessively wrapped his hand around me, and I was confused.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
He lowered his head as he stared at me. It's clear something was bothering him, but I don't know what it was.
"What is it?" I asked
He took a deep breath as he said something that weakened my resolve: "I am sorry, but I have to take you to the Lycan King of Grandeur." He looked down.
"You mean the most powerful or the paranormal? why?"
"It's part of the bargain."
I shook my head and said, "No, I am not going anywhere; he promised to come for me; I can't go anywhere else." I said, looking panicked.
"Shh," he said, closing my lips with his index finger.
"Please say no more; you are making me feel more guilty."
"Since you are feeling guilty, why do you have to do this?" I asked, my voice laced with both fear and panic.
"I have to; I can't let my men die," he said.
"What about me? I thought you felt something—the bond, the look in your eyes yesterday, the way you protected me, the way you stared at me with so many emotions—I thought it was real. I thought you cared. so I was wrong after all." I sounded pained.
"Please stop making thongs harder than they already are; can't you see that I'm trying my best here?"
"Your best is not enough, Gabriel," I shouted his name without bothering his status as an Alpha king.
He looked shocked. "No one has ever called my name like that, but weirdly, it's amazing hearing it from your lips." He said it with a small smile on his face.
"I'll take you to him, but don't worry; I promise you that everything will be fine."
"Everything is not fine." I burst out. I just wish he could do more. I just wish he could think differently and change his decision.
"Please, you just have to do this. I promise to come for you, but I just want my men to be safe first. I'll feel like a failure if I let all those men die."
"But didn't you feel the strong, unexplainable connection yesterday?" I asked because I wanted to be sure.
He lowered his head as he stared at me. "Yes, I felt it."
"Yet, you are letting her go; do you know what I'll face there? Do you know the treatment I'll face while being under his custody? What if I don't survive?"
"Please, just stop. Just try to survive. I'll come for you, please." He pleaded, and the emotions in his eyes were evident. I let out a deep breath. I was feeling hurt, and out of anger, I ran, leaving his presence.
I continued running till I was outside. I didn't stop running until I landed on a hard body. His body was firm and hard, and his scent was distinctive; it was like the scent of a lemon and hibiscus flower.
I can't bring myself to look up, but I still managed to do so. That was when I saw a young man; his face was cold, no single emotion; his eyes were Hazel green; his lips were so plump and juicy; they were very tempting. Her dark hair was well-trimmed.
He unexpectedly wrapped his hands around me before he said.
"MINE."
