April Sanders
I stood there, feeling shocked by the news. I was scared; I thought he cared; my wolf never lied; she said he's my mate; why would a mate betray me?
"I... is not what you think?" He was scared, even of his voice, but deep inside, I was hurt. He came close to me; he was about to touch me. I shook my head as I retreated.
"No, don't you dare touch me, I thought. I thought you would be different from Jeffery," I said with evident hurt in my voice. I could see his fist was tightly clenched whenever I mentioned his name.
"I am not him, April; I am the vampire king, and I'll protect you." He said it yet again, and I looked down, my hands trembling. We were both scared of having that feeling of betrayal.
"Please, I just need some time alone," I said as I left his presence. I went straight to the bedroom, I cuddled myself under the sheets. I was not happy with the way things turned out to be.
I stayed cuddled in bed. I don't know why it hurts me more than it hurt me when Jeffery betrayed me.
After basking in thoughts for over two hours, I slept off, feeling both dizzy and tired.
I eventually woke up; my vision was still blurry. That was when I realized I was in the car, lying in the back seat, and someone was driving the car. I then fully opened my eyes, and I closely noticed it was The Vampire King. That was when I realized that I still didn't know his name.
"W... where are you taking me?" I asked with a trembling voice.
"To the Alpha king of Athena," he said coldly. I wonder how he changed from the once romantic man who prepared food as he served it to me in bed to someone who sounded cold and had no ounce of emotion.
"W... why, but you promised to say everything would be alright." I choked.
He tightened his grip on the steering wheel as he came to a sudden stop.
"Don't use that against me, young lady."
Now he was pissed. I gulped as I decided to keep quiet throughout the ride. I didn't utter a single word again. I folded my hands as I sat down on the seat. He would frequently peek in the rearview mirror, more like he was waiting for me to say something, but I refused to utter a word, so he could understand that I was pissed.
When he was almost there, he stopped. He came out of the car only to come and meet me in the back seat. He stared at me with so many emotions in his eyes.
"I'm sorry, but I just have to do this."
"You don't have to, you're high..."
"My name is Jace, Jace Kyle. I don't like you calling me Your Highness; it's too formal." He stopped me from completing my words.
'Jace Kyle....' I murmured inwardly," What a nice name!
"I am very sorry, April, but my kingdom is at stake. I just have to do this; I'll give you to him, but I promise to bring you back to me because I feel... like..." he pursed.
"Yes, you feel what?" I asked inquisitively.
"Never mind."
"Promise me that you will be safe," he said as he brought his strong, masculine hands around my cheeks. His gaze was so intense that it made me gulp.
"Promise me, because I'll come for you, April; that's a promise."
This pale-skinned man is breaking down my resolve, and there is nothing I can do. I am feeling strong emotions I have never felt before.
He unexpectedly leaned in as he slid both hands around my cheeks, bringing me closer to him. Then he kissed me. The kiss was both intoxicating and beautiful; it was my first kiss. I have never allowed Jeffery to kiss me, even though I loved him, and I was ready to go to any length for him.
"You are beautiful," he commented after letting go of me.
"You are not bad yourself," I said with a grin on my face.
We both sat in the front seats as we went to the place where I had dreaded most. I have heard rumors about the Alpha king of Athena, the man whose words just brought people to their knees. According to rumors, it was said that he was both cruel and that anyone who went against him faced his wrath. I gulped when we reached the kingdom. One of the security men asked Jace some questions at the gate; his response was incoherent. The security man then ordered for the gate to be pried open.
He drove the car, and I was fascinated with the environment and people going about their daily routines. When we eventually reached the great mansion that belonged to the king, I was scared
"I firmly held his hand. "Please, I don't think I can do this.
He also wrapped both hands around mine and said, "Don't worry, I will come back for you, April. I won't let anything happen to you," he said. I believed him, which was something I never expected myself to do.
I gulped as I shoved myself out of the car as we both walked inside the mansion. I was fascinated by the beautiful building and the well-carved structure; it was truly magnificent and picturesque.
"Welcome; I can see you fulfilling part of your bargain." I heard a deep, husky voice that brought cold shivers down my spine, but the same voice made me feel something I had never felt before; it made me crave and dread at the same time.
I turned to look at the man who had just said that, and that was when I saw him. A young man with a well-refined figure, his face was beautifully yet dangerously well-carved, his long hair cascaded down his shoulders, and his brown eyes matched his brown hair.
And that was when I heard my wolf say the word I least expected—a word that haunted me.
"HE IS MY SECOND MATE."
