Chapter Seventeen Lambeth sat in the anteroom of the president’s grandiose office, waiting his turn while the president finished a meeting. In a moment, the door swung open and the president appeared, but no one stepped out to leave the meeting. Lambeth was briefly confused, then saw the president’s flushed face and rumpled tie and knew that his prior commitment had evaporated through another exit.
