Chapter Nine Rebecca panicked for a moment and looked around for others. Was she being attacked? Robbed? What was this truck doing on their path? A quick glance, and she saw no one else. She could barely control Charlie, so she slid off his back and tied him securely to a tree. The man in the truck was writhing in the front seat, slumped over toward the middle, his hand gripping the gear shift, and his face ashen from the pain. His leg was a mess, twisted unnaturally. Rebecca’s first thought was the horror if this i***t had hit her and Charlie.
