CHAPTER TWO: Assumptions

Kira woke up feeling like she had been sleeping for years.All her body ached as if she just got back from a thorough gyming exercise. And at this moment she remembered that she hadn't eaten anything all day,and her tummy was rumbling aggressively like a lion preparing to feast on its prey.

Josh had already left the house a couple of hours ago, but he left with the keys, or maybe he hid them somewhere in his room. No one dared to go into his room in search of something, except if he asks you to. So, apparently, Kira was having the worst day ever.

“ Oh how I wish I hadn't been born into this type of home, my life would've been better off” she grumbled. Suddenly, she heard a knock on her door. She jumped up with excitement because she'd never forget that knocking pattern in a hurry,it was Maya, her little sister, followed behind by her older brother, Ben.” Kira… Kira, Maya called out. “ we haven't seen you all day,is everything ok? Maya sounded worried. Maya was only six years old, but she cared for everyone like she was the caretaker of the house. “I'm good darling, I'll be out in a bit” Kira tried to pacify her because she wasn't ready to explain the whole situation to the poor little girl

“Where's Ben?” Kira asked. “He is here standing by me”. Maya responded

“Ben please help check out If dad is back because I'm almost starving to death”, Kira groaned while petting her flat tummy.

Just as Ben left, Maya brought out a chocolate bar and passed it through a small opening underneath the door. She was pretty clever. Here, have this as quick as possible before dad comes to open up, I know you're very hungry” Maya consoled.

Kira hurriedly ate the chocolate bar like it was going to be her last meal. “Thanks alot Sisi”,Kira expressed her gratitude towards Maya. Kira personally calls Maya Sisi,more of a pet name she gave to Maya

“ Ben's coming Kira , hurry up.” Maya gave Kira a headsup. “Well ladies, dad's back but for some unknown reason,he is very upset,and I think he had a bad day at work. So hopefully he remembers to open up or else……” Ben reported”. Oh why?….why!? Kira started crying “he's never going to remember me now,we all know how dad can be whenever he's upset,especially from work” she wailed

“Please kindly call mum,she has to do something” she begged Ben. He quickly went up to Bianca's office to call her.unlike the regular mums and wives, Bianca worked from home because the almighty Josh refused to let her out of the house

Initially he refused letting her work at all claiming that she has everything she needed so she didn't need a job. But she had to plead countlessly. After much deliberation, Josh now decided to bring both the job and the office to the house. Obviously,Josh was damn too protective and this gave Kira the more reason to be suspicious about every movement of her overprotective father

Bianca was engrossed in what she was doing and almost didn't notice her children's presence. “Hey mum , sorry to bother you but then dad’s back and he's really upset, and he might likely forget to open up the door for Kira so we were wondering if you could go talk to him as a reminder……maybe?” Ben asked Bianca

“Oh not again” !! Bianca sighed. Everyone knew how Josh could be whenever he comes back home upset from work.At that point, nobody dared to ask him anything….. neither his wife nor Dan

“Okay babies,I'll take it from here” she assured them both. They both left for their respective rooms in order for them not to withhold the drama that was about to begin

Bianca reluctantly went to the lounge to meet her husband,she was literally practicing the words she would use in convincing him to let Kira free, especially in a way that wouldn't cause more harm.

Josh was pacing up and down the spacious lounge, making numerous phone calls,it was even worse for Bianca because those phone calls were in harsh and aggressive tones. “What could he possibly be so pissed about?” Bianca asked herself.She had stood for a while and then resulted to going back upstairs seeing how her husband wasn't even noticing her presence in the room. Just as she turned to leave,Josh called out to her,”Cupcake, where are you going”? Surprisingly,Josh calls Bianca Cupcake. Despite the fact that he was a very rigid man,he still had this undying soft spot for his wife. He never for once called her Bianca, even when upset. “Uhm…I see you're very busy so I decided to leave you to it” she said “ well I'm done now so….tell me” Josh was being different from the usual him.He wasn't transferring aggression this time. Bianca was extremely surprised but couldn't admit it to him. She just stared and gave him a welcoming hug, and she didn't even attempt to ask him why he was so upset in order not to bring back the anger. Without Bianca even asking, Josh gave her the keys to Kira's room and asked that she be released. He was forcing a smile. “Kindly open the door for Kira will you,” he asked….. Politely. Bianca had multiple questions going on in her head, but she considered them rhetorical.

Everyone was surprised at the new behavior of strict Josh, but little did they know that he was pretending. Josh was in a very big mess and any slight mistake would swipe everything he had ever worked for. Bianca hurriedly went to open the door for her daughter and she gave her a big hug.”You're free now my love, come for dinner. But first say welcome to your father, he's in his study room.” Bianca instructed.” Do I really have to Mum?” Kira asked. “ You need to, baby, don't worry he's no longer upset, so you'll be fine. Now run along sweetie, dinner is almost ready”. Bianca encouraged Kira

“Okay mum”, Kira left to go meet her father.

Now Josh was in his study room, once again he was on another call, and Kira still felt reluctant to meet him. Just as she was about to enter the room, something caught her attention. “That merchandise is my biggest catch, Manuel,and you know it. Anything happens to it, and you all will be dead before tomorrow noon, get it?” Josh threatened Manuel. Manuel was Josh's most trusted worker and had worked with him for years. Josh ended the call and Kira opened the door almost immediately. Josh was startled by her presence. He really hoped she heard nothing. “Good evening daddy”. Kira greeted, “oh! sweetie, I'm really sorry, okay? I'm just making sure you all are okay. That's why I got really upset. Forgive me my baby”. He pleaded “it's alright dad”. She assured him “Now run along, I'll be down in a bit for dinner”. Kira left the room feeling uneasy. That statement was like an affirmation to the fact that her father was definitely hiding and seeking something. ” Merchandise? Dead? Father? “ She kept pondering on these words as she made her way to the dining room. Kira almost lost appetite as she perched on her meal the whole time. Now she was sure her dad was into something illegal, she promised to find out by all means.
