16. Head On

Calista The afternoon slipped away as I wasted it on organizing files, ignoring the one task on my to-do list. But even with the distraction, I could hardly stay focused. My mind kept drifting back to the email draft I had left unsent, anxiety crippling me when I glanced at my parents’ names on the list. I couldn’t bring myself to click on the send button no matter how much I tried. By evening, I finally pushed away from my desk, a slight relief settling over me as I left the office. I had accomplished nothing but a dustbin full of waste paper from all the organizing. The journey home was not memorable, I was too caught up in my thoughts, it was by sheer luck I had made it home safely. As I opened the door, I expected Ethan to come running, his usual excited shout filling the room.
