Tyson held Olivia’s hand as he drove to the hospital. Olivia sat beside him while Robert sat in the backseat, sandwiched between Darla and Everly. Robert had seemed tense at first, but as he listened to Everly and Darla, he took notes and relaxed during the drive.
That also made Olivia relax. To her, it was clear Robert was there to help Willa, and that was all she was worried about. She wanted her family fixed so they were all healthy and happy again.
“I need each of you to explain what your fairy magic is and how it manifested the first time,” Robert said as he looked at his notes. “That might help me understand what is happening to Willa.”
Olivia laughed, “I discovered I had fairy magic when I was pregnant with Amelia. Aggie Black, who is a witch, sensed it. The fairy magic is also why my wolf, Raine, did not make her presence known until after we met Tyson. Being near our mate gave her the strength she needed to break the bonds of the magic.” Olivia paused and smiled at Tyson before continuing. “As for when my fairy magic manifested, it was when Lia was teased by some older kids because of who her biological father is. I accidentally blew up a tree with a lightning bolt.”
“And that was when my fairy magic came forward, and I extinguished the flames on what was left of the tree,” Tyson chuckled.
“To confirm this, Olivia, you can control lightning, and Tyson, you control flames?” Robert questioned.
“I can control all forms of weather. Most often, I nudge a cloud a few feet in one direction or another to benefit a garden or to keep an event from being ruined,” Olivia admitted.
“I see no harm in that. I would do the same,” Robert smiled. “What about you, Everly? Has your magic presented itself?”
Everly laughed, “I can control water in my human form, my wolf or my dragon. When I’m in my dragon form, I can breathe fire or water if I can absorb enough moisture beforehand. I found out I could do that because when they were building the art center, we were all at the site, and Blueberry, Lia’s fey dragon, set her hair on fire. I yelled ‘no’, and she was pelted with every drop of water within fifteen feet of her. That was a fun day.”
“I’m not sure that I would consider it fun, but definitely an interesting one,” Robert said. “How did Amelia discover her magic?”
“On the morning we had her family birthday party for her third birthday, Lia wanted flowers. She walked over to the flower bed and made them grow and bloom,” Tyson said, beaming with pride. “Lia has remarkable control of all plants. When your brother stumbled upon her, and she scented him as her mate, she wrapped him in vines, shifted into her wolf, and bolted to the house. That was also an interesting night.”
“Since Will is Amelia’s mate, I’m sure his magic was passed to him by her. When did it manifest for the first time?” Robert asked. He watched as Darla and Everly giggled, and Tyson blushed noticeably. Olivia seemed to be the only one relatively unfazed by it.
“That happened shortly after Will marked Amelia. She reacted to the vampire venom, and her body temperature spiked. In response to that and us being unable to bring down her temperature, Will’s magic came forward, and he pulled the heat right out of her. His magic has been a godsend to many parents with feverish kids him in Obsidian,” Olivia explained.
“And to those of us who want to have snowball fights in July,” Darla giggled.
“But only if Logan, Will and I all work together,” Everly said.
Robert scribbled notes and asked, “What is Logan’s magic? When did it appear?”
Tyson laughed, “We tease Logan that he has the worst timing for everything. He got his dragon in the middle of the community barbecue. He got his wolf and fairy magic simultaneously after he and I flew out to the isolated north lake. That is when he shifted into a flaming wolf.”
“A flaming wolf? You can’t be serious,” Robert incredulously said as he paused in his writing.
“Oh, but we are,” Olivia said. “Dr. Clark was there and can confirm it. He documented it thoroughly, the same as the rest of us. His Aunt Freya, who is half werewolf and half fairy, is helping us all navigate this mess.”
Robert shook his head as he asked, “Who else has fairy magic?”
“Isla can talk to animals. She talked to her grandpa Nick’s wolf for the first time a couple of years ago,” Darla offered
Everly grinned. “My cousin Ben can heal people.”
“What do you mean he can heal people? That isn’t possible,” Robert insisted.
“Someone should have told him that because we have all watched him do it,” Tyson said. “The first time was when there was an accident at the construction site for the art center. One of our workers crushed his hand and nearly severed his finger. Ben rushed to provide basic first aid, and as he did, his fairy magic awakened. Ben’s hands started to glow orange, and the dragon’s finger healed. It was like he had never been injured except for a faint scar.”
“I think that it is for those of us with active magic. There are others in the family who have fairy magic, but it has never come forward,” Olvia said.
Robert sat shaking his head as he flipped through his notes. “None of you have the same abilities. Tyson and Logan are similar, but they are still different. All of you have elemental abilities except for Ben, who can heal, which I have never heard of in fairy magic. I hoped this would help me understand what was happening with Willa and possibly devise a treatment plan, but this doesn’t help.”
“Should we be worried that you felt it would be an easy solution and appeared to be stumped?” Tyson asked as they approached the hospital.
“No. Your family is unique. That makes my job more difficult. That’s all. I will still find a way to help Willa,” Robert assured him. “I promise you that. It might mean you have me in Obsidian longer than any of us had planned, but I will not leave until Willa has the best treatment and outcome possible.”
“Thank you,” Tyson said. “While you are here, you will have full access to all the medical facilities and the labs at Emery Tech. If you need additional personnel to work with you, say the word, and we will find the people most suited to your needs.”
Robert grinned as Tyson parked the SUV at the hospital. “That’s good to hear because I want to recruit Ben to help with this. Do you know where I might find him?”
“You are in luck,” Olivia laughed as she hopped out of the vehicle. “Because Ben works her in the emergency department as a paramedic. I already linked him when we left the airfield, and he is waiting for us inside.”
