CHAPTER 14 Scott POV Jess! Where are my dress shoes? I yelled out. Jess and I have reservations with my parents at La Lune in the city. My parents never wanted to have dinner with us before since they were hell bent on the idea of Jannelle being my mate. But since I told my mom that Jannelle left me and that wouldn’t work out anymore and how unhappy we both were anyway, I decided to pick things back up with Jessica and couldn’t be happier. My mom reluctantly agreed to dinner but told me that she would at least give it a try. She makes no promises. “Scott, your dress shoes are in the closet on your side under the shelf.” She shouted. I’d be lost without that woman.  An hour later we arrived at the restaurant and I noticed my parents were pulling up at the same time. I opened my mother’s door and helped her out. Good evening mother, you look lovely. “Thank you dear as do you.” she said with a small smile. “And this must be Jasmine” she said with a sly smile. “Nora you know her name is Jessica.” My father cut in. Mom, Dad I am pleased for all of us to finally sit down together. Jessica and I have been anxiously awaiting for this. My mother rolled her eyes and motioned for us to go inside. This is going to be a long night, I thought to myself.  Jessica POV As we were driving over I felt the nervous energy coming from Scott. Baby calm down. No matter what happens tonight you are mine and I am yours. Nothing changes that. Not even your parent’s opinion of us. “Jess, if they don’t accept us then my dad will never give me the reins to the company. I need that company Jess!” he said, seemingly more agitated than usual. So, you inheriting the company is more important than me? Than us? I said, raising my voice. “Of course not baby I just want our future to be set and me being the head of the company would do that. We would be able to have anything  we wanted.” He said. All I want is you. But if it means that much to you I will do my best to win them over. I said. As we were pulling up so were his parents. Let the fun begin. I said dramatically. As we got out of the car he rushed over to help his mother out leaving me to open my own door. Strike one I thought to myself. When his mother purposely messed up my name I got angry but I decided to let that one go. We proceeded into the restaurant and were immediately seated. Being a big shot advertising exec was paying off for Scott’s father Charles. It came with it’s perks for sure. Once we were seated the waiter came and took our drink order. Nora ordered a glass of red wine and I decided to skip on the hard liquor and follow suit. Yes I’ll have what she’s having. I said to the waiter. Nora rolled her eyes at me. Strike one for me I thought. So, Nora, what kind of business are you in? “Business?” She replied. Yes, do you work for the Ad agency with your husband? “Oh no dear. I am an interior designer. I work with all of the high end clients. You wouldn’t know them.” She said looking down at me like I was some peasant unworthy of her presence. You’d be surprised I said, under my breath. The waiter came back with our drinks and I threw mine back like a shot of tequila. When I realized the stares I was getting I quickly handed my glass back to the waiter and said this time, I’ll have a scotch...make it double please. I said to the waiter. He chuckled and walked off to get my drink.  “Well, I sure hope my son can keep up with you. I’d hate to see you drink him under the table.” Charles said with an amused look on his face. If I didn’t know any better I’d say Scott’s father was flirting with me. Once I felt his foot graze my lower leg I jumped a bit. Yep he’s definitely flirting with me I thought. No one else at the table realized what was going on underneath the table. But Scott’s mother Nora made it a point to insinuate that I may be doing drugs. “Does she always fidget like that?” Nora asked Scott. “No mom, maybe she got a chill. Please relax.” Scott replied.  Nora, please excuse my behavior. I am nervous and truly just want to make a good impression. Nora glanced over at me with this look of disgust on her face that made me feel like I was blessed to have her even acknowledge my presence. “Hmm, well OK I suppose we could start over.” She said. That would be great! I said. “What kind of work do you do Jessica?” Nora asked. I am a yoga instructor. I replied proudly. Nora rolled her eyes and scoffed. “I can’t imagine that pays very well. Do you rely on my son to take care of you?” she rudely asked. Before I could answer Scott cut in. “Mom, Jessica has been taking care of herself for a long time now. She owns two studios and leads retreats multiple times per year teaching men and women to become yoga instructors. She is more than capable of taking care of herself.” Scott replied. I said back in shock. Not only was that complete bull s**t but the fact that he felt the need to lie to make me sound more of what she needed me to be was insulting. Why couldn’t he just say something like, No mom that’s none of your business. Charles on the other hand looked completely amused by all of it. His eyes kept wandering over my body. First my face and then my neck and then down to my breast. Oops there’s his foot again. This time he at least took his shoe off. As his foot started to rise going up my inner thigh I decided that was enough action for the old fart. Excuse me! Waiter! Can you please bring me another drink? I yelled. Scott leaned over and whispered to me, “Jess, are you ok baby? That’s your third drink in less than forty minutes.” I am completely fine Scott. Everything is fine. Your mother insulting me is fine, your making my career to be more than it is is fine, your father’s foot trailing up my thigh is fine. It’s all fine, fine, fine! I replied pissed off and slightly intoxicated. “My Father’s what?!” He screamed. I couldn’t help the giggle that came from me. Well this couldn’t get any worse right? I was wrong.  Scott POV I cannot believe my dad is trying to play footsies with my mate under the damn table! Dad! I shouted. His head snapped in my direction forcing his eyes away from Jessica’s breasts. Dad, maybe you’d like to tell me what is  going on at the company? “Oh nothing new really.” said my dad as his eyes traveled back to Jessica’s rack. This was going nowhere fast. So, Mom, I wanted us all to come to dinner tonight to make a formal announcement. My mother raised her eyebrow at me with a skeptic look. Jessica and I are now mated. I have imprinted on her. She is forever marked as mine. She will be doing the same to me. I cannot wait any longer to spend the rest of my life with the woman I truly love. You would have thought I shot her. The look on my mother’s face was less than pleased. “Her? Why her? What about Jannelle? What happened? Jannelle is so sweet and would make a lovely wife and mother to our future grand babies.” Nora asked with her hands waving about. Mom, I never loved Jannelle. I stayed because I thought that was what the spirit Goddess wanted. I stayed because I thought it was who I needed to be with to further my career. I love Jessica and I need you to accept that. “I accept it” came from Charles. Scott and I looked at him and once we realized he was three sheets to the wind we disregarded his vote. “What kind of wife and mother will you be? How will you know how to care for my son?” She asked dramatically. “I love your son. I will spoil him and take care of him for the rest of my days. You have my word.” Jessica replied. “I’m sorry but I cannot approve of this. I need to speak with Jannelle.” Nora said and then she got up  from the table. “Dinner is over Charles we are going home!” Mom, please wait. Let’s work this out. “Charles!” she yelled and stormed out of the restaurant. “Sorry Scott. Maybe she will calm down in the morning. It was a pleasure meeting you Jessica.” My dad said as he stumbled his way out of the restaurant. Well, that went to s**t fast. I said as I looked over to Jessica who was more than pist off. s**t!
