Finding myself

CHAPTER 10 Jannelle POV “Good morning Miss Vasco! How are you feeling today?” Dr. Stephens asked  as she came into the room. I am feeling much better thank you. I still have a dull headache and my brain still feels a bit itchy but other than that I feel good. “Hmm, as you know you are a wolf. Your brain feels the way it does because your wolf is trying to connect with you. Once the two of you reconnect she can begin to heal you.” said Dr. Stephens. How do I reconnect? Does it hurt? I asked her. Dr. Stephens chuckled and replied “No it doesn’t hurt. It’s like having a private conversation in your mind and no one else but you and her can hear it. Once you have connected she will heal you and your memories should come back. All you need to do is focus on her. Believe in her and she will come to you.” Oh, I see. I stared down at my hospital gown and began pulling at the fabric. I was noticeably upset because Dr. Stephens placed her had on my shoulder to comfort me. “Miss Vasco, may I call you Jannelle?” she asked. Yes of course I replied. Dr. Stephens was 5’7 dark brown almost black hair that settled just on top of her shoulders. She was in her late sixties and had the kindest hazel green eyes I’d ever seen. “Jannelle, you seem upset. If you’d like to talk with me about it I’d be happy to listen, but I have a feeling you need to speak with someone that has experience in this field.” she replied. What field? “Psychology.” Dr. Stephens replied. I looked at her puzzled. Do you think I am  crazy? “Oh no dear of course not! But you have been through something traumatic. It  would be good for anyone to speak to someone about what has happened. It also will make getting your memories back easier to handle. Once you begin to remember, you might need someone to lean on. Someone who will keep things confidential and give you sound advice on how to move forward. Would you like me to set you up with a consultation with our resident psychologist?” Yes I suppose that would be fine. Will I be able to  go home soon? Wherever that is.. My voice trailed off. “I don’t see why not. I can call the Alpha and let him know you are being discharged. He mentioned that you could stay at his house for now. Would that be OK?” she asked. I nervously glanced around the room and then said yes I suppose that would be fine. Thank you for all you  have done for me, I replied. “You are by far one of my favorite patients Jannelle. I guess it’s OK to tell you now that you will be leaving but I knew your mother. She was one of the most beautiful souls I’d ever had the experience of knowing. Her time on this  earth ended far too soon.” You knew my mother? How? Dr. Stephens was making her way out of the room when she stopped and paused for a moment before answering my question. “She was my sister.” she said as she lowered her head and a small tear fell from her eye.  Zack POV Yes, thank you Dr. Stephens. I appreciate your call. I will pick Jannelle up at 5pm. I hung up the phone and began looking around my house. I needed to get the guest bedroom all set up. I wanted to make sure I felt completely comfortable so she could rest and easy and get back to herself. Because I am the Alpha and have a lot on my plate, I have a house staff including maids and a personal chef. I don’t use the personal chef too often because I like to cook. I was damn good cook too if I was being honest. My Italian roots and mother wouldn’t allow me to be anything less. “Good morning Alpha! I will be getting Miss Jannelle’s room ready for her. Is there anything specific you would like me to do?” Mrs. Jackson asked. Mrs. Jackson was about 4’6 with silver hair. She was one of my mother’s oldest friends when they were kids. She was like family. You know you don’t need to call me Alpha. I said with a small smile. You have been more like family I told her sincerely. She smiled brightly. If you wouldn’t mind, could you please have some flowers delivered? Pink roses are her favorite. I’d like to have some in her room on the nightstand if possible. Also, she loves Italian and mexican food. I have made a list of things I will need, to cook her dinner. Would you mind sending Charles to get the items? “Of course Alp-” she stopped herself. “ I mean Zacharia.” she continued. Ouch! No one calls me that but my mother and that’s only when I’m in trouble, I said with a laugh. She just smiled and went about her day. If I plan on picking Jannelle up by 5pm I need to get things done at the office first. I decided to make a quick call to Megan to fill her in on my way to the office. Megan POV She is leaving today? “Yes, I will pick her up at five tonight. Did you want to come?” Zack asked through the phone. Actually yes I would like to come. I feel she has been through a lot and I think having a girlfriend there will help. Zack gasped and tried to sound offended by I knew he was just being a smartass. “ What am I not trustworthy now?” he asked. Oh stop being a drama queen, you are one of the few people I trust completely. But with the way you feel about her and the way she is expressing these new feelings for you, it might be best to have a buffer. There was silence on the other end of the line and for a second I thought I’d lost him. Zack are you still there? “Yes I’m here. I was just thinking about what you said. I guess you are right. It’s best to make sure she is completely comfortable and settled without any new interferences in the way, even though it would be nice to have alone time with her.” He said. I’m sure you’ll have plenty of time for that while she is staying with you. I said. Give it time Zack. She’s been through so much in the last four years and  now without her remembering any of it, I think more time is needed, I stated. “OK, hospital pick up party of 2.” he said with a laugh. Goddess help me, I said with a laugh.
