Episode 5 The Tracker

The man didn’t rush them. That made it worse. He walked forward slowly, his boots silent against the pavement. The air felt heavy, like the moment before a storm breaks. Kai instinctively stepped back, sensing something dangerous about him. Ren didn’t move. Mira crossed her arms, though Kai noticed her stance shift slightly. "You’re far from home," she said. The man stopped a few feet away. "So are you." His voice was calm, controlled. Kai glanced at Ren. "Who is this?" Mira answered quietly. "Tracker." Kai blinked. "That sounds bad." Ren nodded. "It is." The Tracker’s gaze shifted to Kai. Then to the pendant. "There it is," he said softly. Kai tightened his grip. "Not for you." The Tracker tilted his head slightly. "We’ll see." He moved. Fast. Kai barely saw the motion before Ren stepped forward, blocking the strike. Steel clashed, the sound sharp and sudden. Mira darted to the side, circling. Kai backed away, heart racing. The Tracker fought differently from the hunters. Calm. Precise. Every movement calculated. Ren struggled to push him back. Mira jumped in, forcing the Tracker to shift focus. She moved quickly, landing a sharp kick that forced him back a step. Kai felt the pendant burn again. Energy surged through him. Without thinking, he raised his hand. Dark power burst forward. The Tracker staggered, sliding back across the pavement. For the first time, his calm expression shifted slightly. "Interesting," he said. Ren seized the moment. "Run." They didn’t wait. They turned and sprinted down the street. Behind them, the Tracker didn’t follow immediately. He simply watched them go. And smiled slightly.
