Never the same.

We didn't hang around the morgue for too long, there weren't more leads as for now, especially if that wasn't a real body. We started walking back to my apartment, if we were to find more information would be with my laptop.  I turned to the sky once more, this time the grey cloud was getting much closer, an electric storm would probably hit the city in about 3 hours. As I did that and thought, I had this nagging feeling that this case was strangely familiar, but in the past it definitely didn't blow like this one. One thing I noticed was the way she walked was... Anti natural, her feet moved slow, and although I walk pretty fast, I could never find the chance to overrun her. At the pace we were going we didn't take more than 10 minutes to get to my apartment. I slid the key inside the downstairs door and was prepared to turn it left, but when I pushed it in the door opened by itself. This was weird, but not uncommon, actually a few months ago a neighbor complained of the same thing, given that we live in a sketchy neighborhood. Since I didn't have any other choice I just walked inside and held the door so she could come in, she just gave me a paranoid look but enter anyway. The travel through the stairs to my place was a quiet one, there was no music, no dogs barking, not even one voice from my neighbors. This time I really got worried, so I took out a little taser that I carried around for self defense. She had a worried face, it seemed as she knew something was wrong, so I decided to try and comfort her: -Don't worry, this is just a precaution. -That's not what i'm worried about. We kept walking up the stairs until we got to the door, this time I sighed in relief, I opened the two locks that I had close and slowly pushed the door. We walked inside, I took a look around and notice something weird, the breakfast that I had left on the table wasn't there anymore, also, all of the cases that I moved when I tripped were in order once again, I certainly didn't remember moving nothing, and I had totally forgot that I had put three locks, not two.  Running steps could be heard from behind, I heard her just saying: -Damn it! I turned for a second and noticed how someone with grey clothes and no discernible facial features was running towards us. I braced for impact, but she almost immediately got down on one knee and pulled a knife of a weird color, definitely not one that I had seen before. She started running and stabbed the guy three times in the gut, I could hear screeching not from this world, almost demonic, it was so bad that I had to cover my ears.  And then I felt it, someone grabbed me from my shoulders, my expression changed to a surprised and disgusted look when I got to see closely what that thing was, definitely not human, maybe trying to replicate it, but that's a big stretch. I then got pulled towards my bookcase, where my back crashed, three shelves full with books fell down with me. I saw that creature running in my direction once more, this time I had more chance to react, so I dodge his arms quickly with a flip, I quickly regretted that decision, because the taser that I had on my hand flew to the other side of the room, close to the feet of the creature. Having no appreciation for my life, I tossed my body towards the taser, the creature flinched and just stayed there for a second watching me, I didn't waste this opportunity, so I pointed the gun ant pulled the trigger, it connected very easily, but there wasn't any effect. Another screeching came from not a mouth when that thing got on it's knees and put it's hands in my neck, the sheer strength that was being applied was almost enough to break it easily, but the creature wanted to enjoy my suffering, my vision became blurry, I tried to fight it with weak hit in it's arms but to no avail, it was getting hard just making any movement at all, I could feel how my soul started escaping my body, everything was giving up. I started to close my eyes as that require to much effort when I could hear faint footsteps in the background. From out of nowhere I could breath again, my vision started coming back slowly and that's when I saw the creature with a knife stuck on it's throat, it's hands where now trying to take it out but that wasn't working, and then it just fell to the floor. To it's side there was the girl, waiting for me, I just started coughing, not even gathering strength enough to get up, I could barely talk, but I tried my best: -Who the hell are you? -That's a very long story, and right now we don't have the time. The quietness in the building was an indicator that there are probably dozens more inside the building right now. She offered me her hand so I could get up and continued: -Our best bet is trying to outrun them through the window and then get to the floor from another building. -But my windows don't open. -Don't worry, I got us covered. She proceeded to grab one of the shelves that I knocked and carried it, with ease she just threw it and the window shattered. She got out first and looked around quickly, after the all clear I followed her and we started running through the roofs of other buildings. As we did that I told her one last thing: -The least thing you could do is tell me your name. -Ha, that sounds about right. My name is Tracy, it was nice finally meeting you. -I could say the same thing right now. -It seems this is the start of a beautiful partnership.
