NOA
My vision was tunneling. I could see the outline of my mother, and Avery holding the knife to her throat. This asshole was going to pay for this.
I felt the strongest surge of energy I’ve ever experienced in my life. The air in the room was deadly still. There wasn’t a single sound but the beat of my own heart in my ears. It felt like someone had hit the slow motion button for just a moment.
Then I felt it. The energy surge ignite internally. The concrete floor creaked and groaned deep from within.
The walls and floor began to shake, my mother had stumbled from Avery or he was too focused on me and simply just let go of his hold of her. “Noa! Noa stop!” My mother pleaded. But it felt like a dam had burst, I couldn’t hold it back.
A long crack burst through the floor and up the wall so incredibly fast. I could hear the thick concrete buckling. The lights flickered in the room and an alarm started blaring overhead. Red cast emergency lights flooded the space. The ceiling erupted next revealing the stormy sky above. I smiled. Perfect.
The windy rain poured into the room whipping around us all. The tables had flipped over, the contents scattering. Avery inched towards the door.
“Oh don’t you want to stay and play Avery? Surely you like games too?” I asked him innocently. His eyes widened in fear. It was his turn to cower now.
I shot a torrential wave of water and air at him. He slightly deflected the assault of air back at me but it had already knocked him on his ass. The gurney I’d been strapped to had knocked over, the ground was thundering from underneath me. Vines and roots spilled through the splits in the concrete floor. I summoned the vines, they wrapped tightly around my ties at my feet and hands until they broke, freeing me.
I rose up, lifting my arms up dramatically and slamming them back down at my sides with a deafening boom. The lights above me were raining down sparks, wiring through the ceiling was exposed and smoking. Avery had his hand on the door handle pulling it open. I slammed the door shut and flipped the lock with the flick of my wrist. I was gonna go full blown Carrie in here.
“Tsk. Tsk.” I said to Avery, repeating what he had told me before. “The Trinity would like a word with you.” I said in a sing-song manner. There was screaming all around now, I could see people scattering and yelling through the small window in the door.
The sparks above me had erupted into a small flame. I lifted my arm up and pulled a flame directly into my hand. This was… new. But I inherently knew I could control it now. The same way I always just knew I could move the other elements. I watched the flame dance on the surface of my skin just for a moment. The winds and rain were still roaring wildly and the floor and walls were seconds from giving way.
I smiled at Avery. “Looks like you’ve got a front row seat to the show. Isn’t that what you wanted?” I asked before shooting the growing flame directly at him. He screamed. I could smell the flesh on his face burning. I didn’t feel in control, it was like an entity had taken over.
The walls groaned one last protest and began to crumble. A small explosion sounded with fire rising from the mess. I transformed into my Cooper’s hawk and shot up into the air. Wait! Wait my mother! My vision finished tunneling red before I lost complete control and consciousness.
