The Rejection

CHAPTER THREE Roseline POV I didn’t feel my legs as I stepped into the open space before the crowd. The earth beneath me felt thin, like it might crumble at any second and drag me into the darkness below. Whispers slashed at me from every angle. “Cursed…” “Omega trash…” “She actually came forward, how pathetic.” My chest rose and fell rapidly as tears blurred my vision. And yet… The bond still pulled me. A violent, undeniable force dragging my soul toward Alpha Kael. My wolf whimpered helplessly. “Mate… mate…” My heart answered her, even as my body trembled in terror. Kael finally turned toward me. His eyes were cold. Hard. Cruel. The look of a man who wished I didn't exist. He bit down on his lower lip, jaw tightening, a muscle pulsing in his cheek as if just looking at me irritated him. He tapped impatiently on his thigh, breathing hard like my presence offended him. The entire clan watched, breath held. Then Kael spoke. And my world collapsed. “I feel nothing for her.” The words tore through me like claws ripping skin from bone. Gasps filled the square. “No…” I mouthed silently. My throat closed. My heart twisted violently. I staggered backward. He continued, voice flat and merciless: “There is no way a weak omega could ever be my mate.” It felt like someone reached into my womb and tore something sacred out of me. My wolf screamed inside me, her cries echoing through every part of my soul. “B–But… everyone knows… everyone felt..” Kael cut me off sharply. “Roseline, it was never you. And it will never be you.” The ground tilted. My knees buckled. The crowd blurred. My breath broke. I fell hard. No one moved to catch me. They stepped back. As if I carried disease. As if touching me would stain them. “Alpha Kael…” I gasped, crawling toward him, tears streaming endlessly. “Please, don’t do this...” He looked at me like I was an insect beneath his boot. The elder tried once more, his voice anxious. “Alpha Kael… are you certain? The bond...” Kael closed his eyes for a moment. Hope flickered inside me like a dying flame. Then he faced me again... And extinguished it. “I meant every word. I don’t feel the bond.” My heart shattered so violently I couldn’t even scream. The elder struck the staff against the ground. THREE. LOUD. BOOMS. It was done. Sealed. I had been rejected. Humiliated. Destroyed. Kael turned away from me like I was dirt beneath his boots. He walked toward the oath stone, rolling up his sleeve. The elder sliced his palm with the moon-blade. Blood dripped onto the sacred stone, glowing silver. “Today,” Kael declared, “I ascend the throne as the 47th Alpha of the Silver Band clan.” The crowd roared. They cheered. They howled. They danced. While I lay on the cold ground, invisible. A maiden spat at my torn gown. “Cursed girl. Don’t come near the Alpha again.” A male wolf laughed loudly. “She really thought she was meant for him? Look at her!” My wolf curled into a tight ball inside me, her cries fading into quiet whimpers. I felt hollow. Dead. A shell. Food and drink passed over my head as if I wasn’t there. No one looked at me. No one cared. I forced myself to stand. My legs wobbled. My hands shook as I gripped the hem of my dress. I needed to leave. I needed to disappear. When I reached the edge of the square, a group of female wolves stopped and smirked at me. “Our beautiful Luna,” one mocked. “Our fated mate,” another sneered. Their laughter cut into me like glass. I stood frozen. I stared up at the moon, bright, full, surrounded by stars. The goddess I had prayed to all my life. My chest tightened. My breath shook. “WHY?” I screamed, my voice echoing across the night. “Why did you create me only to torment me?!” The crowd silenced for a moment. But I didn’t stop. “Why didn’t you let me die the night I was born?” My tears fell like rain. “Why would you bind my soul to someone who despises my existence?” My voice broke completely. “Oh, I curse you,” I whispered, shaking violently. “I curse the day my mother birthed me. I curse the day I came into this world.” I tore the gown, the beautiful gown Selene made, ripping it down the middle in agony. My skin exposed to the cold air. The sky responded instantly. Black clouds rolled over the moon. Thunder cracked open the heavens. Lightning split the sky. Raindrops poured down like the heavens themselves were weeping. And under that raging sky, I stood alone… Rejected. Unclaimed. Unwanted. And the bond, the sacred destiny I had held onto all my life, burned into ashes.
