CHAPTER SIXTY Morning comes softly, without warning. I’m sitting up in bed, my back aching, my body still heavy from labor and sleepless nights, breastfeeding my son as sunlight slips through the curtains. Zaiden feeds quietly, his small hand curling against my skin, his lashes fluttering as if he’s half in this world and half somewhere peaceful. I’m exhausted. The kind of exhaustion that settles deep in the bones. I barely slept through the night, every cry, every sound pulling me back into wakefulness.
