We camped in a dark place for the night as the zombies are always blinded at night.
The powerful beasts specie are still very far from where we are. They are the closest to the laboratory we are going to get the cure from and we are still very far from there, extremely far from there.
Everyone was busy helping themselves with snacks as we all ate and drink. Well except me, I sat down beside a big gigantic tree with my gun held firmly in my right hand incase of emergency.
"Hi" I heard a familiar femine voice said beside me and I turned back almost immediately to see Vera sitting close to me.
"Hello" I replied taking my eyes off her and slowly sipped my coca cola which I had just broken the seal.
"This place seemed cool, isn't it?" She asked.
"Cool?" I asked. "This place is scary and I hate it in here"
She chuckled as she hit me lightly smiling as she did so.
"You are just scared" she laughed. "I love adventures, I do watch adventurous movies and action movies a lot and I had hoped one day I will go on a very dangerous adventure, and here I am, in the land of zombies, sipping my coca cola gently while holding tight to my little friend, my gun." She said and laughed lightly.
I laughed lowly as I stared at her, amused.
"You seem relaxed, why?" I asked fixing my gaze on her. "You are not scared."
"I don't show my feelings or emotions, you can't understand me. Seriously, am scared because it's my first time but you can never notice...only those closer to me can understand me," she said and slowly drank from her coca cola while I stared at her amusedly.
"Is this your first time staying in a place like this?" She asked breaking the silence which ensued after her last statements which was clearly five minutes ago.
I had kept quiet staring into the dark night as my mind was far away from me. Many thoughts ran through my mind as I thought about many things both possible and impossible.
"Yes, I don't stay out at night," I replied blankly.
"You don't do late night party?" She asked.
"Well, yeah, I don't party at all," I said and she chuckled.
"Weird" she muttered as she drank from her drink while I focused my gaze on her for a while before staring away.
"Why do you accept this mission when you know you ain't capable?"
"Because of my brother," I replied.
"What's with him?"
"He got bitten and he turned into a zombie but he's under control in the lab, but he needs the cure to get better," I said.
"Ooh! Sorry about that," she muttered.
It was morning already and the sun was already up in the sky. Mark could be spotted in a corner with a tablet in his hand which he tapped repeatedly.
I looked over to the other gang and each one of them were busy doing some stuffs.
Vera also sat beside a small tree with wide leaves which provided shade around it with her shot gun held firmly in her left hand.
Her phone was in her hand which she tapped occasionally.
"Alright guys, we head deep into the forest and trust me, the forest is what you will never dream of entering unless you are skillful and experienced. The forest is donated with many turned and skillful zombies, not the slow and ugly ones but the skillful ones with inhuman speed and inhuman strength. Trust me thats where the s**t will get real. Y'all have to be prepared," Mark said.
A sigh escaped everyone's lips as we started putting our guns into the case made on our clothes.
I strapped my swords on my back in a crossed X position while I held firmly to my Ak-47.
"Remember, they can't die easily unless injured in the head, so, get a headshot or probably stab them in the head if possible and work in pairs. Teamwork is the key," he said with a tone of finality and we all know the little speech is over as we began our hopeless journey whose goal was to get THE CURE.
We walked for hours but still there's no sign of zombies or beasts and I was beginning to think we are passing the wrong route.
I felt the urge to ask Mark if we are passing the right route but I kicked against it.
Although there's no sign of zombies anywhere but still we stood at alert, our guns was held tightly in our hand and any strange movement there's gonna be alotta gunshots.
Mark suddenly raised his right hand signaling us to stop and we stopped immediately with our guns pointed out as we quickly form a circle with each one of us facing different angles with our already c****d gun pointed out ready to fire.
"They are somewhere around here," Mark said as he c****d his gun.
We stood there for minutes expecting an attack but we got none as nothing was forthcoming.
Seriously, is this Mark kidding me right now?
Suddenly a kick from nowhere sent one of us flying away and landing roughly on the ground with a loud thud.
A punch from nowhere connected to my face thus flying me away and landing on a tree with my back crashing roughly on the branch and I let out a painful groan.
Despite the attack, no one was seen.
No zombie, no beast...wtf!!!
