Chapter 7“Oh, but Cassie, you should darling!” Anton Krieger stressed with so much emphasis on the ‘should’ that it left his daughter feeling not a little uneasy and angry simultaneously, despite her love for her father. The four of them sat in Richard Steele’s Montego outside her flat, Cassie in the front passenger seat and her parents in the back. Daddy appeared much older than his sixty years and mummy seemed noticeably aloof; preoccupied, and Cassie sensed a row brewing between them. Cassie’s indecisions concerned Richard, whom her father was so insistent should accompany her back to her flat. Further indecisiveness included the dark eyed handsome stranger in the flat opposite; the man she knew as John Sarony. The image of his perfectly white toothed smile and darkly smouldering eyes
