She had openly informed her mother that she would be going to lunch with her new boyfriend; that he had come in and asked her out. “And I missed him,” Victoria had complained, adding “as long as you’re happy darling, and have you heard from Richard?” Cassie had retorted that as far as she was concerned she had no wish to see him.
