Chapter 12The place Sarony had chosen for lunch was a small out of the way diner in Highfields Grove. Cassie knew it well enough but had never been inside. She had openly informed her mother that she would be going to lunch with her new boyfriend; that he had come in and asked her out. “And I missed him,” Victoria had complained, adding “as long as you’re happy darling, and have you heard from Richard?” Cassie had retorted that as far as she was concerned she had no wish to see him. Richard hadn’t sounded too happy on the phone and Cassie lived in fear of him either calling her or physically putting in an appearance at the hospital, knowing how he felt about her.
