Chapter 14: Fractured Bonds
(Scarlett's POV)
I jolted awake with a scream caught in my throat. The den was dark, shadows stretching across the walls. My heart pounded so hard it echoed in my ears. My limbs trembled as cold sweat soaked my skin.
The nightmare clung to me. Steven’s ice-blue eyes were cold and empty in my mind. He looked at me like I was dirt beneath his feet. His sharp fangs marked Sarah’s neck as mine. The mate bond shattered in my mind, leaving me doubled over in anguish while my wolf howled in torment.
"No," I whispered, panic squeezing my chest. My wolf pressed against me, restless, distressed. I couldn’t think. I couldn’t breathe.
