Alexa’s Pov
"Hey, girl!" Essel shouted excitedly as soon as I picked up the phone. Her voice was so loud and high-pitched that I had to pull the phone away from my ear.
"Hey, are you all set?" I inquired while I stuffed my English textbooks into my bag.
"Yeah, pretty much. I just wanted to confirm that I'm actually picking you up at ten," she said. I nodded, then realized how silly I must have looked since she couldn't see me.
"Yep." I could hear some papers shuffling in the background before her voice came through again.
"Oh, there's a party tonight, and I was curious if you wanted to join," she trailed off, prompting a sigh from me.
"Sure, why not." She squealed with excitement, and once again, I had to hold the phone away from my ear.
"Awesome! See you in an hour!" I quickly hung up after her enthusiastic shout and headed into the front room.
"Looking good." I glanced over at the sofa to find Akila sprawled out, eyeing me in my snug white jeans and dark blue top.
"Uh, thanks," I murmured, allowing my gaze to drift over his muscular torso clad in a black shirt and dark wash jeans.
As I entered the kitchen to prepare my breakfast, I sensed a presence behind me. Warm hands found their way to my hips, and Akila's lips brushed against my neck. Had he not learned anything from yesterday?
I leaned back a bit, feeling annoyed as a soft moan slipped from my lips. Akila chuckled, his hand gliding down the top of my thigh before he stepped back.
"On the contrary, you’ll be the one begging," he whispered, placing another kiss along my jawline.
"That sounds like a challenge," I responded, cursing myself when my voice came out sultry.
"That’s exactly what it is," he said, retreating from the kitchen.
I ended up running late. Akila’s little groping session had caused me to spend significantly more time in the kitchen.
The lobby was impeccably clean, professional, and tidy. It instantly brought a smile to my face as I made my way to the main desk to request a map. Our schedules had been sent to us via email, and mine was securely in my bag. I only had one lecture and a seminar, so I would be back in time to prepare for the party. Essel mentioned that Pascal was the one hosting the party, so there wouldn’t be any dance practice.
"Hello, I was hoping to get a map?" I inquired at the reception, and the woman behind the desk responded with a smile and a nod. I stood by the glass window while she turned around, printed it from her computer, and handed it to me.
"Thank you!" I exclaimed with a grin and turned my attention to the map for the English lecture room.
It wasn’t too far from the reception area, and outside, I spotted a guy from the dance troupe. I didn’t know his name, but I recognized him from dancing in the corner with the others and then in front of me during one of our dance-off routines.
"Hey," he said as I reached the classroom door, and I returned his smile. His short blonde hair shimmered under the lights, and his deep blue eyes were scanning my face with a friendly sparkle.
"Hi." I looked around and noticed there were only about ten other students, none of whom seemed familiar.
"Let me guess, Essel?" he inquired, and I smiled while gently shaking my head.
"No, the other one." He laughed and nodded in understanding.
"Alex?" I beamed and took the hand he extended towards me. "I’m Nazif."
"It’s a pleasure to meet you," I said courteously, glancing at the classroom door. It was ajar, and students were entering one by one. Nazif motioned for me to go in first, and I returned his gesture with a smile as I walked through the doorway, him closely trailing behind me.
The classroom turned out to be much larger than I had anticipated. At the front, there was a board and a podium where the professor was busy organizing his papers.
"Would you like to sit next to me?" Nazif inquired, waving his hand in front of my face to catch my attention. I nodded, smiling, and followed him to the third row back, where he dropped his belongings and sank into his seat.
After placing my bag at my feet and ensuring my phone was on silent, I took out my notepad.
"Excuse me, do you mind if I sit here?" I turned to my right, where the voice originated, and found a lovely blonde girl looking at me. She seemed a bit anxious, trying to smile at me, so I returned her smile.
"Of course." She set her belongings down and arranged her desk so that her pens were aligned with her notebook, and her ruler was positioned neatly along the top edge. Everything was perfectly organized, and once she finished, she beamed at me before focusing on the front. I turned my head to the left and saw that Dylan was watching her just as I was.
"I’m Rose, by the way," she introduced herself cheerfully, appearing much more at ease. I smiled back, and Nazif reached his hand across to shake hers.
Nazif. "This is Essel," he said, and I shot him a playful glare.
"I’m Alex," I corrected him, and she beamed back at me.
"Alright, everyone pay attention!" the professor shouted from the front. We ceased our chatter and focused on the lecture. Rose was incredibly committed, seemingly writing down every single word the man uttered, while Nazif and I merely scribbled the occasional note.
"I’m not going to make you all read the chapter, but at your age, I do expect it from you," the professor concluded, giving each of us a challenging look before turning around and declaring the lecture over.
As soon as the lecture ended, Rose began to pack her belongings and flashed a grin at me once she was done.
"Wasn’t that just incredible?!" she exclaimed, her whole face glowing with excitement. I was at a loss for words, and it seemed Nazif was too, as he remained silent.
"Well, I should get going. I have a book waiting for me! It was lovely to meet you both!" she concluded, pivoting on her heels and leaving us to admire a cascade of long blonde hair.
"Wow," Nazif said after I had slung my bag back over my shoulder. I laughed, pushing myself up from our seats and heading toward the exit.
"I know, she’s really energetic," I whispered, allowing Nazif to step through the door first.
"Are you going to the party tonight?" he inquired, adjusting his backpack higher on his shoulder. I nodded as we turned the corner toward the reception.
"Yep, are you?" he nodded back, pausing to sign out at the front desk.
"Yep. Do you need a ride?" I asked, shaking my head with a slight smile.
"I don’t think so. Essel will likely give me a lift," I answered, writing my name on the sign-out sheet.
"She’s going with a guy named Steve," I sighed, dragging my hand down my face.
"Damn, do you care?" He shook his head with a smile.
"Not at all. The party kicks off at five, so should I swing by your place at half four?" he inquired, and I nodded in appreciation.
"Thanks! I reside at number 4 in the Kent Apartment Blocks," I answered, and his expression turned puzzled. He halted, and I glanced back at his bewildered face.
"But that’s where Akila lives." It was my turn to look perplexed.
"Yeah?"
"Well, isn’t he supposed to take you?" I shook my head vigorously.
"Absolutely not, I can’t stand him!" He laughed, continuing to walk alongside me.
"Great, I’ll arrive at four-thirty." I bid farewell and positioned myself by the doors, awaiting Essel. I still needed to attend a seminar, and she was in the same one, so afterward, we’d head home to prepare.
Essel finally caught up with me, and we strolled to the seminar together, discussing our classes. I shared details about Rose, and she filled me in on a girl named Comfort. Apparently, she was part of our new dance troupe and had a strong dislike for Essel.
"Honestly, she was such a total jerk," she whispered as we entered the seminar room. I spotted Comfort right away for three reasons. First, her bright red hair was impossible to overlook. Second, she was shooting daggers at us. Third, while glaring, she was munching on Akila’s face.
"And a total skank," I chimed in, not even glancing at Comfort and Akila as we made our way to the front of the room to sit with Pascal and Nazif. There were two other guys with them, also from the troupe.
"Hey, everyone," Pascal said with a grin, patting the seats beside him.
"Hello," we responded in chorus, and I glanced at the other two guys sitting with them. Both were incredibly attractive. One had light brown hair, while the other sported nearly black locks.
"This is Den," Pascal indicated the brown-haired guy. "And this is Luke," he concluded.
"Pleasure to meet you both," Essel said before turning on her charm. Neither boy seemed to mind as she engaged them in lively conversation while I talked dance schedules with Pascal. We had some dance-offs planned with other groups soon, along with gigs at various clubs. It brought back memories of the good old days when we used to dance at the local venues.
The seminar dragged on. We mainly gathered some textbooks and discussed our expectations. After that, we all headed home to get ready for the party.
