Chapter Sixteen: The Princess Who Wasn't

239 Words
The four made it back to the caves without incident and the shock on the peoples’ faces was extremely evident. No one had known where the King and Queen had gone since they had left in such a rush. Of all the theories and whispers, no one had expected them to come home with the missing princess. However, the ecstasy of having their princess home and thier King and Queen joyful again overcame the kingdom and all who resided. The merfolk celebrated Merilla’s return with happy tears, joyous laughter, and tips and tricks on making friends with the sea creatures. Her parents had requested with a laugh that everyone take it easy with her as she hadn’t known about being a mermaid for most of her life. She was quickly dubbed The Princess Who Wasn’t, first as a joke but later as a reminder of how strong Merilla was to grow up as she did and still be a Princess that loved and was loved by her people. The title had started because she kept telling her new people that she wasn’t really a princess and while it was a bit on the nose she loved the title all the same. It would remind her, as she grew into herself, just how far she had come. She would never forget that she was the princess who wasn’t adored, cherished, respected, believed in, or loved… but she is now.
