“I’m not here to hurt you,” he said quietly.
Elena raised a silver dagger defensively.
“You serve Valdrik.”
Kael’s expression darkened.
“Not by choice.”
Before she could answer, the executioner roared behind him.
Kael immediately pushed Elena aside.
The creature’s claws smashed through stone pillars.
“Run!” Kael shouted.
For the first time, Elena realized not all monsters served darkness willingly.
Chapter 17 — The Secret Beneath the Church
Back in Blackmere, Adrian discovered hidden tunnels beneath the church.
Ancient symbols covered the underground walls.
Father Marcus stared in horror.
“The old kingdom…”
Adrian lit a torch carefully.
“No,” he whispered.
“This is older.”
Deep underground, they uncovered a sealed chamber.
At its center rested a black coffin marked with crimson symbols.
Marcus stepped backward fearfully.
“What is it?”
Adrian’s face turned pale.
“The first vampire.”

After the attack, Elena treated Lucien’s wounds inside the palace.
Silver burns scarred his skin.
“You could have died,” she whispered.
Lucien smiled faintly.

Elena looked into his eyes.

Selene laughing beside him.
Dancing with him.
Loving him.
And dying in his arms.
Tears rolled down Elena’s face.
Lucien gently touched her cheek.
“Selene…”
Elena finally whispered the truth.
“I remember everything.”
For several seconds, silence filled the room.
Then Lucien kissed her softly beneath the crimson moon.

Far away in his dark castle, Valdrik sensed Selene’s awakening.
His rage shook the throne room.
“She remembers him,” he snarled.
Suddenly dark shadows crawled across the walls.
Ancient magic surrounded him.

A curse that transformed him into something beyond vampire.
Something far worse.
His eyes turned completely black.
“This kingdom will kneel before me,” he whispered.

By sunrise, Blackmere burned.
Valdrik’s forces surrounded the town completely.
Citizens fled through smoke-filled streets.
Adrian fought beside the townspeople desperately.
Then suddenly—
The sky turned crimson.
Everyone looked upward in horror.
A blood-red moon appeared above the mountains.
Inside the palace, Lucien’s expression changed instantly.
“The prophecy has begun.”
Elena stepped beside him.
“What happens now?”
Lucien looked toward the burning town below.
