Chapter.4 Into the Night

Lerato’s breath became short, and uneven bursts as she stepped out into the cool night air. The silence outside was a contrast to the chaos that had erupted inside just moments ago. Her heart pounded against her chest as she walked down the driveway, her hands clenched into fists.

She didn’t know where she was going, only that she needed to get away. Away from the lies. Away from the fear that had taken root in her chest. Away from the parents who had spent so much time shielding her from the truth that they had left her completely in the dark.

The streetlights flickered overhead, casting long, eerie shadows on the pavement as she walked. The neighbourhood was unfamiliar, its quietness unsettling. Every distant sound—a dog barking - the rustling of leaves made her shoulders tense. She had no idea who had been in the house, but the way her father had looked at her before rushing out told her everything she needed to know.

They were in danger. And now, so was she.

She pulled out her phone, her fingers trembling as she scrolled back to the mysterious message. They’re not telling you everything. The words burned into her mind, more ominous now than they had been before.

Who had sent it? And how did they know what was happening?

Lerato hesitated before typing a reply.

Who are you? What do you know?

She hit send and kept walking, her breath forming small clouds in the night air. She didn’t have a destination, but she knew she couldn’t go back. Not yet.

Her phone vibrated almost immediately. A new message.

It’s not safe. They’re watching.

Lerato stopped in her tracks, her fingers tightening around her phone. She glanced around, her skin prickling with unease. The street was empty, but suddenly, it didn’t feel that way.

Her pulse quickened.

Who’s watching? she typed.

No response.

She exhaled sharply, frustration mixing with fear. She needed answers, and she needed them now. If her parents wouldn’t tell her the truth, she would find it herself.

A sudden noise made her spin around. A car, parked a few houses down, had its engine running. She hadn’t noticed it before, but now, she was certain—someone was inside, watching her.

Panic surged through her veins. She turned and started walking faster, her mind racing. If these were the people her father had warned her about, she couldn’t let them catch her.

Her phone vibrated again.

Run.

Lerato didn’t hesitate. She broke into a sprint, her shoes slamming against the pavement as she darted down the street. The car’s headlights flashed on, and the engine roared as it started moving.

She didn’t look back.

Her only thought was escape.

Panting and all most out of breath,she kept running ,tears started running down her cheeks ,she didn't know her way and out of nowhere she heard a voice’’ Hey sweetheart why are you running,come ,the next thing she remembers is that every where becomes black .

the next morning, Lerato woke up to bipping machines

Where am I? she asked ...

Nurse: Good morning ma'am, you were brought her by some gentleman yesterday .You collapsed, and so he rushed you here .Here, she stretched her hands and handed over the card to her .he asked that I give you his card when you're awake . He said he was heading for a meeting.

Thank you so much, Nurse. Lerato responded to the nurse

Nurse:Let me get the papers ready, and you will be free to go home. Just be careful and take a lot of water, alright

Lerato :yes thankyou

Seeing that the Nurse had left ,Lerato looked at the strange card in her hands who could this be she thought ,he had saved her and that was all that matters,”I will call him and thank him later when I get home she said to herself .

Back at home:

where could she have gone to Neil? she doesn't know anyone here ,or do you think they took her?

Took her?they don't even know she's here ,well fine her ,the suspense is killing me ,where is she ?

I hired someone to look , calm down, honey .I will call the guy again

Sarah:Hurry ,my patience is running out.

Just then, there's a rumble at the door, and Lerato works in

And where the hell have you been? Her mother asked her ,making Lerato jump from the intensity of her tone

In the hospital Lerato answered, and don't pretend to care she fired back at her mum just when she was about asking what happened, causing her mother to retort from asking her questions, well then,fine…

Lerato stormed into her room, and straight to the bed, she fell into a deep sleep .

Lerato woke up at exactly 1pm ,her head spinning from the various choas she had passed through from the day before. Suddenly, her phone screen came on, and a massage popped on her notification board

Hello beautiful…I'm so sorry I had to leave the hospital in a rush to attend a meeting, please how are you feeling?

As long as she could remember, since she got here, these were the only smoothing words she had heard..

She quickly sent a massage. Who is this?

and immediately another massage came in .It’s the guy that took you to the hospital,

she quickly sent an apology letter ,I'm sorry, so sorry, thank you for saving me ,

but ? She pondered before asking , "How did you get my contact?"

he immediately replied I guess you haven't checked your phone ,I used your phone to call mine in case I needed to check up on you.Sorry for my manners

It's fine ,thank you again," Lerato whispered.

Oh, you're welcome, Kyler responded.

Kylers pov:

It was late ,and it was operation time. A new girl had just been reported from headquarters, he wanted to see for himself at that process he saw Lerato, the girl was looking disturbed and he wanted to approach her,

the next thing he saw, she was running ..wh"What could have been the issue ,who is chasing her? ,he immediately turned on his car and drove towards her,he parked the car, ran towards her, with fear she ran into him and collapsed.

She's new ,I have never seen her around,wow she is delicate,beautiful jawline,the lips oh wow,could she ….could she be the one? he sluttered. With impulse, he quickly rushed her to the hospital without a second thought,
