“Nicole knew about Courtney, didn’t she?” I asked. I recalled a conversation with her when she’d told me she’d met Donovan’s parents and one of his brothers while I’d confessed I’d met no one from his family. “Yes,” he admitted. “She urged me to tell you the truth, but I just couldn’t do it.” “So what now?” I asked, handing the paternity test paper back to him. “I’d like to put this whole thing with Ryan behind me and move on and I hope you’ll do the same.” He hesitated before asking if Ryan and I had been in touch. “I haven’t heard from him since you both had your blowout.” “Good. Maybe he’ll disappear from both of our lives now.” Although I didn’t admit it to Donovan, I wasn’t ready to have Ryan “disappear” from my life.
