Chapter 9I’d just started to drift off to sleep when I heard the front door open and close. When Ryan hadn’t shown up at seven or eight or nine or ten, I’d figured he wasn’t coming at all and went to bed. I’d totally forgotten that he still had the keys to my place. He could have come by whenever he wanted, yet he’d stayed away until after the test results came in. Maybe he figured I’d be more receptive to seeing him once I found out he and Donovan weren’t related. If so, he figured right. I didn’t even bother turning the light on when he came into the bedroom and neither did he. I heard him undress in the dark and felt him climb into bed beside me. “Did you talk to Donovan?” he asked. “He came to my office after he got the test results.” “I figured he would.” Ryan paused. “I’m sorry.”
