LILLIAN POV I got home from school, and walked tiredly to the living room “I'm back home” I announced as I began taking the stairs “Lillian,” Mom called out instantly, her voice filled with urgency. She rushed to me on the stairs, excitement laced in her voice. I looked at her in a mix of disgust and shock. “What are you wearing, Mom?” I asked my gaze on her chest and her dirty hands. “An apron, of course,” she responded casually, then grabbed my hands, dragging me behind her to the kitchen. I understood that the maids were off today and they weren't at home. The kitchen was a mess with the cabinets stained with icing sugar and sprinkles scattered on the floor.
