CHAPTER4

Jane came out of the office and took a deep breath, She rushed back to her desk, placed her head on the desk and everything that had happened came flashing through her head.

“I am getting fired on my first day at work,” she said to herself.

Jane was so happy when the day finally ended. She quickly rushed back home and told Ella about everything that happened

“ What do you intend to do? Ella asked

Jane breathed deeply and replied

“ I don't know, maybe I should just resign before he fires me”.

Ella tried so hard not to laugh but she couldn't help it

“ Resign on your first day at work?”

“ But I need the money”. Jane answered

“ Then apologize to him”.

Okay, I will try.

Jane got to work as early as possible the next day, she waited till Josh arrived at his office.

Jane took a deep breath as she knocked on the door.

“ Come in Josh answered”

“ Jane stood there shakily as she tried so hard to push the word out of her mouth.

“I’m sorry about yesterday”.

Josh sat very well on his chair and looked straight towards Jane's eyes and said

“ And??”

Jane raised her head looking at Josh in surprise

“ And Nothing”.

“ The get-out!” Josh commanded

“That's unfair” Jane murmured out loud

“ What did you say?” Josh asked again

“ I said I’m sorry for everything that has happened”. Jane said and rushed out of the office.

Josh watches her leave as he smiles.

A few hours ago, Jane called in sick to the company, she was feeling weak over her body. She wasn't sure what could be happening to her. She was so confused and thinking about it felt like a cliche in her stomach. She rushed to the bathroom and threw up.

She stood in front of the bathroom mirror, she was seeing a splitting image of her face. She was trying to gather her thoughts when she gasped and opened her mouth in surprise.

She rushed to her room, opening the drawer beside her bed, and picking off a pregnant strip. Jane was pacing waiting for the pregnancy test result when Ella came knocking on her door.

“ Come in,” Jane answered.

“ Are you okay? Why are you pacing? Ella asked

“ I am finished!” Jane said. She walked into the bathroom to check on the strip. Jane found two red lines showing on the strip. Jane gently walked out as she stretched her hand handing over the strip to Ella.

“ How come? Ella asked in surprise.

“ I don't know, I and Luke didn't have S*x the last time I went to his place.

“Hope is not what I’m thinking?” Ella asked, staring into Jane's eyes.

“ What are you thinking?”

“Your one-night stand”.Ella answered.

Jane gently sat on the floor as she rested her head on the wall. She placed her hands on her stomach Staring at it.

“ This is the end of it” She murmured out loud.

Jane arrived at work, and she was going through some documents on her desk when Josh was walking towards her.

Jane was shaking when she saw Josh walking towards her, she lowered her head trying to hide half of her face with her long hair.

Josh stood in front of her glanced at her for a few seconds and said

“ Bring me my morning coffee”.

Josh likes his morning coffee at a 50-degree temperature.

Jane walked into the office with the coffee in her hand, Josh was singing some document kept on his desk.

“ Your coffee sir”.

“ Have your seat” Josh answered.

“What” Jane murmured loudly.

“ Then remain standing,” Josh answered without glaring at her.

Jane quietly sat. She wasn't sure what the conversation was all about. She sat as she looked toward the ground. Josh finally said something after having his coffee.

“ How are you doing?” Josh asked.

Jane raised her head in surprise, staring at Josh.

“ I heard you called in sick yesterday,” Josh continued. “ You should have stayed home to rest today”.

Jane answered with a shaking voice

“ I’m okay, Thank you, sir”.

‘’ Have you seen a doctor? Josh asked

“Yes, I have”. Jane answered as she stood up and continued.

“I was doing something before you called me in”.

“ Okay, you can go”.

Jane was standing in front of the company building trying to book a cab when a Red Ferrari sports car parked beside her.

“ Hop in let me take you home”.

Jane looked at who was in the car and it was Josh, he drove himself and with a different car today.

Jane rolled her eyes and answered.

“ Thank you, I will order a ride.

“ You don't seem to like me since our first encounter, was I as bad as you claim” Josh said

“ Can we not talk about that, the first encounter that has brought shame to me”.

“What did you say?” Josh asked

“ I said don't worry about dropping me” Jane answered.

“ I'm not requesting”.

“ I want you to get in the car as your boos, we have a work-related issue to settle.

Jane rolled her eyes as she walked inside the car.

It had been 15 minutes of silent driving inside the car, Josh decided to break the silence by clearing his throat. He glances at Jane who is sitting inside the car but looks absent-minded.

“ Are you okay?”

“ Do you want to go see a doctor?” Josh asked but didn't get a response. He smiled as he continued to talk.

“ I don't bite you know”.

“You can talk to me if something is bothering your mind”.

“ This is me just being kind”.

Jane's facial expression changed immediately, she didn't think it before she shouted.

“Stop!!” Jane shouted.

“ I said Stop!!”

Josh trembled immediately as he parked the car.

Jane tried to open the door but it was locked. She bites her lower lips and continued

“ Can you open the car door?” She asked

Josh folds his arm and stares at Jane without replying.

“ I said open the damm car door,” She asked as she looked Josh in the eyes face to face.

“ What exactly do you want from me?” Jane continued in a shaking voice.

“ Why exactly do you want to ruin my life”.

“ We both had a one-night stand, why should I be the one suffering for it “. She continued as tears started dropping from her eyes.

“Hey, Hey, calm down”.Josh said he stretched his hand trying to hold Jane in the hand and continued.

“ Did I do something wrong?”

“ I’m sorry”.

“ You are asking me to calm down”

“ I'm stuck here because of our mistakes”.

“ I'm confused and I don't know what to do”

“ I regret the day I met you, I was so stupid to let you drink with me,” Jane said with tears dropping from her eyes

Josh held her hand together and continued

“ I do not know what I have done but I'm sorry”.

“ Whatever it is I have done wrong, please forgive me”.

Jane breathes down deeply as she stares into Josh's eyes. Josh brought out a napkin as he wiped the tears on Jane's face.

“ Please open your door” Jane pleaded in a low voice.

“What now?? Are you feeling embarrassed already?” Josh asked as he smiled and started the car engine.

“I’m dropping you off at home myself, Can't leave you like this”

After a few minutes drive, Jane finally got home. She was so happy when she got out of the car, She breath deep down. She turned back to look at Josh inside the car but he was already standing beside her.

“ I want to see you enter into your apartment before leaving,” Josh said

Jane pointed to an apartment building in front of her and said

“That's my apartment over there, you don't have to stress yourself walking me inside.

Josh insisted and walked Jane to her apartment. On getting to Jane's apartment, Ella opened the door and immediately he recognized he was Jane's boss because of the way he was dressing and his blue eyeball. Jane was so embarrassed that she rushed to her room without saying goodbye to Josh.

Jane tried not to draw Josh's attention toward her at work. even in close contact of working together, she tried to avoid face-to-face contact.

Jane arranged her things together as the day finally ended at work. She was about to go home when she heard Josh's voice calling from behind.

“ Jane see me in my office”.

Jane stood in shock, She turned back and awkwardly smiled at Josh.

“Okay, sir”.

Jane got to the front of the office, knocked, and opened the door.

“ You can have your seat”. Josh said as he walked towards Jane with a glass of wine and water and continued.

“ Have a glass of wine”.

“ I'm sorry I can't take that” Jane answered.

“Water??” Josh asked

“ Yes, that will do just fine”.

Josh chuckled a bit and continued

“ When are you going to tell me you are carrying my baby??
