CHAPTER FOUR: The Awakening of the System
The steam from the rosemary tea curled upward, filling the chamber with a calming herbal scent. Akiel sat quietly on the edge of his bed, sipping slowly. “Wonderful,” he whispered, “I can feel it already.”
But then—he paused.
A strange sensation surged through his body. A heat—not from the tea, but from within—began to build. His veins felt like they were on fire, as if his blood had turned to molten silver. His muscles twitched, tightened, expanded. His breath shortened.
“What is… this?” he gasped, clutching his chest.
Suddenly, his mind flooded with images—memories from the old King. But not just memories… feelings. Knowledge. A new layer unfolding. Secrets of the royal bloodline. Ancient oaths. Forbidden histories. Hints of a power buried deep in the land of Zoria—long forgotten.
Then, as his muscles clenched and a final wave of energy washed over him, he heard a voice:
“System activated.”
Akiel’s eyes shot open.
He looked around wildly. “Who said that?”
No one was there.
“System?” he called again, confused. “Show yourself.”
A small bell-like chime rang through the air, and before him appeared a floating, transparent figure—a young girl made of golden light, her hair flowing like soft fire, eyes radiant.
“I am here, my Lord,” she said with a gentle bow. “My name is Holiness. I am your Divine System—gifted to you by the gods. I have been awakened due to your righteous changes in the land.”
Akiel stood in awe. “A system… from the gods?”
She nodded. “You have unlocked the 21st Century Advancement System. For every wise decision and every step you take to elevate this world, you shall receive XP, gold coins, and access to divine blueprints and equipment from your original timeline.”
As she spoke, a glowing screen formed before him, listing his stats and balance.
> New Rewards Unlocked
• Tax Reform: +10,000,000 Gold
• Use of Natural Medicine (Rosemary): +5,000,000 Gold
• Enlightening a Citizen (Jay): +1,000,000 Gold
Total Gold: 16,000,000
Akiel’s eyes widened. “Sixteen million gold…?”
Holiness smiled. “This gold may only be used in the System Shop. You can purchase technology, blueprints, tools, weapons, and even structures—everything your world lacks.”
His mind raced. “Can I buy a cauldron for forging iron?”
“Of course. Anything known in your era may be accessed—as long as you have the gold and XP to support it.”
Akiel laughed. “This… changes everything.”
—
Later that day, Akiel visited the forge once more. The pit smoked weakly. The blacksmith looked up with pride.
“This is our finest smelting pit, my Lord. We use it for all copper work.”
Akiel stepped forward and examined the crude setup. “And iron?”
“We… have not succeeded, sire. But the Kingdom of Cedar, far to the north, is close. We fear they may soon surpass us.”
Akiel smiled. “Fear not. I will forge something myself—here in the palace. A tool of true heat and power. By tomorrow, your hands will touch iron.”
The blacksmith bowed deeply. “Thank you, my king.”
—
Nightfall.
In the grand hall, the nobles gathered once again, their faces tense.
“My king,” one barked angrily, “why have you dropped the taxes to a measly ten percent? This will destroy the treasury!”
“Yes!” another shouted. “The people are fools! They must be controlled, not spoiled!”
Akiel rose from his chair slowly. He looked at them—not with fear, but with steady, royal calm.
“Men… and women,” he said, voice sharp, “we are not here to drain the people. We are here to serve them. Without the people, there is no kingdom. Without the kingdom, there is no throne. Do you not understand that?”
The room fell into uneasy silence.
“I will not allow this land to remain the poorest among the nations. I have seen a better path. And I will walk it—even if I must drag this kingdom with me.”
A few nobles murmured approval. Others frowned.
“Taxes will remain low until we stabilize. I will raise them to no more than thirty percent when needed. But never again will it reach fifty. Never again will we feast while our people starve.”
One noble stood to challenge him—but another gently pulled him down, whispering, “He speaks with the gods now. Be careful.”
Akiel dismissed them. “Go. Prepare for tomorrow. We build anew.”
—
Back in his chamber, Akiel closed the doors behind him. The fire burned softly. He waved his hand in the air.
“System,” he called.
Holiness appeared once again, glowing with a warm aura. “Yes, my Lord?”
“I need to understand more. Show me the shop. Show me what I can unlock to change this world.”
A holographic menu spread out before him—row after row of categorized wonders:
> • Iron-Casting Furnace – 500,000 Gold
• Early-Stage Generator – 1,200,000 Gold
• Field Farming Blueprint (Drip Irrigation) – 750,000 Gold
• Steam-Powered Water Wheel – 950,000 Gold
• Basic Medical Kit (x10) – 200,000 Gold
• Weapon: Long-Range Flintlock Rifle Blueprint – 1,000,000 Gold
Akiel grinned.
“I’ll change Zoria. One invention at a time.”
He pressed his hand to the icon for the Iron-Casting Furnace.

Tomorrow, he would build it. And from there—he would start a revolution.
