The red and orange light that shot from the top of the mountain illuminated the hillside. They saw brilliant liquid waves of lava pouring relentlessly down the slopes, engulfing their campsite and obliterating their trade goods. The red-hot carpet of destruction poured forth into the sea, hissing as it breached the waves, filling cavities in the shoreline and seething with a terrifying yellow-white brilliance. Xappo and Fina returned to paddling their boat out to sea, realizing that they had not gone far enough yet to escape the lava that now blanketed the beach and low waves.
