Lyra’s POV
“Stop right there.” A cold voice came from my back and I stopped in my tracks, finding it hard to move on.
Why wouldn’t they let me leave? I don't belong here.
Another thing I was afraid of was being spotted with my new abilities. I was scared of anything that might cause harm again in my life.
“I said stop right there and turn.” I did as the voice commanded and when I turned, I was faced with an old man. He looked at me and nodded his head.
I didn't know what was happening.
“She is the one. Catch her.” He instructed the guards and they followed his command.
“What again? What did I do?” I screamed in anger and pain as they rendered me deaf ears while dragging me along.
“This is wrong!” My voice of agony echoed in the hall.
I walked into the hall and spotted Ranio. He sat on his throne, and beside him was his brother, Asher, some other elders and pack members.
I stood in the center of the hall with all eyes on me.
“So, you are the one.” His voice came up.
“I’m what?” I looked up at him in confusion.
“You are the Guardian of our pack.” Ranio made a comeback and I found it hard to say a word.
So fast? I was spotted.
“Wait… your pack?” I asked in surprise.
“Yes, this is Grayscale Eagle pack,” Asher said with a sharp nod.
“I’m sorry, you are mistaken. I don’t even have a wolf talk more of being a Guardian. That’s a huge compliment.” I shrugged, turning away from him.
“You want to run away, tiny mouse.” Like swift wind, he was before me, turning my face to him with his finger. I was dumbfounded again.
“I.. I…” Words left me at the time I needed them most.
“How about we proceed with the ritual? If you are not, then, we will safely send you out of the wolf kingdom.” He said insistently, raising an anxious brow.
“I’m not interested, and I must leave!” I backed away from him, trying to look serious, but he didn’t act like someone was speaking. His gaze remained indifferent.
“Please, let me go. I don't want to stay here. I don't belong here, and I want to leave.” I cried out.
“My Lord, I will proceed with the ritual.” The voice from earlier came up as the elderly man bowed.
“No. You must not.” I wanted to stop him but Ranio grabbed my arm.
“You have no say until the ritual ends.” He gritted his teeth, shooting daggers with his eyes at me.
“Ranio!” I didn't know where the certain courage came from and I screamed his name.
“How dare you call him by his name!” I heard Asher’s voice after a sharp murmur from the gathering.
“Stay still and cooperate with them if you want me to keep my cool.” He warned me, letting go of my hand as he dashed out of the hall.
“Gosh!” I gasped for air, staring at the wolves as they left the hall.
I was doomed. I didn't want to stay here anymore.
Not with the Lycan brothers, nor in this pack.
“Oh no…” They would certainly find out about my hidden identity.
They were impatient and excited at the same time. The place was set for the ritual. The wolves gathered in the Holy hall, anxiously waiting for the result.
I was dressed in a long white dress and was asked to stand in the middle of strangely drawn circles.
My angry eyes focused on Ranio who stared at me with disinterest. He was more concerned about the result and not about me.
Why was I interested in his feelings for me?
“The ritual will begin.” I shrugged and tried to focus.
The pack Moon Goddess' female descendant started the ritual, speaking in the spirit language and walking in circles around me.
“Lyra… you have to accept your fate…” I bit my lips, feeling defeated.
“She is the one! She is our pack's Guardian!” The lady screamed at the top of her voice and everyone rejoiced in excitement, but I wasn't.
“Then, why did you lie to us? We wouldn’t have gone through all this process if you had come true.” Asher scoffed, tucking his hands in his pocket.
“Does it change anything?” I hissed.
“You are the pillar of our pack, tiny mouse. Do you know how long we have been looking for our Guardian?” Ranio’s voice came up, sounding anxious and concerned as he approached us.
Why was someone so perfect, cold, and loving at the same time?
Raw thoughts flooded my mind whenever I saw him and his brother.
“First, why are you calling me Tiny Mouse, am I that little to you?” I scoffed in disgust and he smirked.
“We don't know your name and I prefer calling you that.” He stated.
“I’m Lyra.” I paused. “I know you want a Pack Guardian urgently, but I’m not interested in this role. I want to live a peaceful life and leave this kingdom. Can you do that for me?” I pleaded sadly and they exchanged a long stare.
“Lyra, we will protect you,” Asher vowed, his voice filled with concern.
“I don’t..”
“I promise to give you everything you want, tiny mouse. Good mansion, good food, good necessities, title, name it, please. Stay in this pack and act your role.” Ranio said insistently, urging me with his eyes.
“You can’t force me to…” Then I trailed off when Ranio closed the gap between us.
I could hear his breathing. I could feel everything about him and he hadn't even touched me but I was already feeling electrocuted.
“Then, do you want me to please you the other way round?” He whispered and I swallowed hard on nothing.
“The other way round?” I muttered shyly.
It couldn't be what I was thinking.
He cupped my face in his hand and went in for a kiss when I suddenly closed my eyes. Why did I close my eyes? Why did I yearn for a kiss from him?
But there was nothing on my lips, there was a long pause as I slowly opened my eyes. He stared at me, clueless.
“Tiny mouse, what are you thinking?” He wondered aloud and I stepped away.
“You shouldn't be close to a stranger that way.” I cleared my throat nervously.
“I would give you a quality chamber next to mine, I will pay you as much as you want. What do you say?” He asked, raising an anxious brow.
I felt disappointed for no reason because that wasn't what I was expecting from him.
Maybe I wanted a kiss not just one, but a wild one that would lead to some bedroom foreplays because I needed it to clear my head but all these were my virgin wishful thinking.
“Lyra, this is the first time in centuries the Lycan brothers are begging. We don’t beg, we torture but we are trying to make a difference…” Asher reminded me with a calm voice and I sighed.
Being their pack Guardian means they were enemies to Alpha Davion, and it would be of benefit if I stayed here and fought him with them. I would pay him back and slowly make him fall on his knees and apologize. I would also be in the position to threaten him to change my name that he had ruined.
“Fine. As long as you promise my safety, I will take on my role as the Pack Guardian.” I broke the silence in the atmosphere.
“Yes!” Asher punched his hand in the air while Ranio smiled, staring at me and I retaliated. It wasn’t my fault but my wolf felt comfortable and attracted to him.
“My Lord! I see you have found another slave.” The flirty sound of a female filtered in the air as she approached us. Tall, pretty, and looking elegant.
“Slave?” I looked at her, irritated.
“Will you assign her to my quarters this time? My hands are full and I might need some help.” The lady placed her manicured hand on Ranio’s chest and he didn’t push her away.
“She looks fit, what do you say?” She urged him with her eyes and for some reason, the look in his eyes changed.
He looked at both of us differently, and hers felt a little bit emotional.
“Who is she?” I didn't know when these words escaped from my mouth. It was meant to be a thought and they all faced me.
