Elle's pov.. I was up earlier than usual the next day, not that I slept a wink. My eyes were swollen from my excessive crying throughout the night. My siblings were set to leave today, but we needed to talk about my impending doom. I dragged my self out of bed, a pounding headache in my head made me wince, as I tiptoed to the bathroom. I did my business then dressed quickly, because I needed coffee, a strong mix of my black poison. it wouldn't solve my problem, but it would soothe my soul for a minute or two. I opened the door and the sight that greeted was of my mom in my dad's arms, he held her as she finally slept. They were both asleep on the hard floor dad resting his back against the wall, mom on his lap, her head buried in the crook of his neck. Mates, I thought to myself. They just couldn't let each other be. I turned and gingerly closed my bedroom door, tried is the keyword I suppose, because when i turned back to go down the hall and stairs to the kitchen. Mom and dad were wide awake and watched me with worry filled eyes. "Dad, mom good morning." I said on a sigh. I felt terrible that they slept outside my room all night, of all their pups I was the one they worried about all the time. I might be the prettiest damsel the Bordeaux family had. but I was the wolfless one, who couldn't fight or defend her self. "Morning pumpkin." they answered as they got up to their feet and led me downstairs. I could hear Wanda and Quinn moving around in the kitchen. My siblings and their mates were already up and about. I doubt they slept much anyways. Patrick brought out a tray of steaming hot mugs of coffee, scones, crackers, cookies and croissants and set it on the dining table. it was still dark outside as we gathered, mates and all for a family talk. Quinn's mate Emery's was the first to speak. "Elle, he isn't that bad, besides you'll never truly know what he is like as a mate until, you give him a chance." "I don't think, I want Elle anywhere near that boorish man. Renee said " Dad can we speak to the alpha about withdrawing his acceptance, to give Elle as Gordon's chosen mate?" Patrick who had been quietly munching on some scones finally spoke up. "What if we quickly found a Lycan to take you as a chosen mate instead?" Wanda chirped in after her mate. " She has been promised to the man already, I think its too late to try to salvage anything." Emery's said to further buttress his point from earlier. "I don't think the alpha should make those decisions without any input from Elle or mum and dad. its not right." Dante,Renee's mate stated. "What if the pack offers up another female, more suited to the beta's needs." mom asked. I stared morosely at my cold coffee, wishing I could have an out of body experience, or just vanish into thin air. Run away from my problems and surface on another dimension or fifty decades into the future. Elle ! Elle! what do you have to say , I looked at the worried faces of my loved ones and sighed deeply, while biting down hard on my quivering lower lip. Depressed ? Well that won't be farfetched. Renee, rubbed my arms up and down, trying to comfort me. " I 'd rather die than be mated to Mr. Weissman, and even at that , I wouldn't want my carcasses anywhere near that monster." I pause and nervously pushed my glasses up my nose as I spoke. "But I would like to know the result of dad's meeting with the alpha before I make a decision." "Its not looking good sweetheart and honestly, I don't really think you are being given a choice here, but it would do no good to be pessimistic about your chances." He paused to take a sip of his coffee before continuing to speak. " But I should have a solid response for you by the time you get home from work." Dad finished. I took a peek at the screen of my phone, it was time to head out for work. I set up my braces, hugged everyone , said my goodbyes and began the thirty minute walk to the office. my eyes were still a little red and slightly puffy, my headache had reduced slightly, although, it was still pounding. As I stepped into the building, Brianna, my biggest bully was wrapping up the changes she had effected to the reception area. It now looked more understatedly elegant with little bursts of vibrant colors. "You lazy twit, come here and get these dirty boxes out for me." I nodded and rolled my eyes at her, while backing her so she wouldn't catch me doing that. I was frustrated beyond words, but I couldn't refuse. she would kill me, although, that won't be such a bad idea. "Hold up, hooooolllllddd up !! she stressed dramatically, in her annoying screechy voice. "Did you just roll your eyes at me?" she asked anger flashing in her eyes. I was about to nod my head, no, when I noticed the reflective wall beside me. F**k my damned luck. She practically watched me roll my eyes at her. This time it was my misstep, it wasn't the goddesses fault. it was all me. This time I would pay for my disrespect. "Ooouuuchhh.." I whined loudly, as I felt a chunk of my hair being pulled out of my scalp as Briana forcefully pulled me towards her, before shoving me away again. My headache was back with a vengeance, the painful pounding tripled. Brianna was absolutely livid. "I'm sorry" I begged , as tears sprung up in my eyes. Twaap !! Twaap !! My face forcefully turned in the direction of each slap. As she hit me hard across the cheek twice, the sound resonating through the empty reception area. "You should thank your lucky stars, because if we weren't expecting guests tody, your punishment would have been much more severe. stupid useless human." But since its your lucky day, we would pick this up later. For now make sure this entire area is pristine. and orderly, especially today." I nodded my acquiescence obediently. People say hate is a strong word and I try to steer clear of that emotion, but I have failed miserably. For the only person that I hate with a passion in all of Brentwood, is Brianna. After doing as the queen b***h commanded, I quickly rushed into my office to repair whatever damage she had done to my clothes and appearance. Brianna and her team had done a good job of changing the entire outlook of the reception. The artificial plants were now replaced with natural ones. Some desks had been moved out, chairs changed, art works were switched from one spot to another. The office looked like it had gone through a vacuum cleaner and a new interior decorator. Today was going to be tough and unpretty considering my lack of sleep. I also feel something was going down today, from what I gathered, we were expecting a royal to visit and tour the entire building, but I didn't know which Royal exactly. Work began in earnest and apart from the incessant pings from too many email notifications work was back to normal, until a hush fell over the entire building, around two in the afternoon. The emails stopped and everyone seems to be walking on egg shells. The calls stopped too and no one made me run up and down the stairs. Just like yesterday, we filed out again in front of the long reception desk. This time I asked what was going on? Phoebe, one of my trainees, responded with a question. "Do you not live in this town?" She queried. Of course I did but I couldn’t tell her what I had been preoccupied with last night, after work till this morning. "Just tell me, I know we are expecting a member of the Royal family, I just don't know who." I said on a sigh. But before I could get a response, the sound of the elevator arriving cut off any more talk and I inwardly prayed to the goddess to give me this day. "Its the king Elle." someone whispered lowly to me and I stiffened. The king of werewolves and Lycans, billionaire owner of Brent inc. Oscar Brent, was in this same building as me? My palms instantly got sweaty as the occupants of the double elevators began to step out. Our heads turned to look at the group of people approaching us, there were three women and maybe ten men? A gust of power hit me as I continued to stare at them coyly as they got closer. Then I saw him, the king, he was dressed casually in jeans and a shirt. but then he suddenly stopped moving and engaged the man beside him in a serious discussion. Most of the men were dressed smartly in expensive suits, but the king and the man beside him were both clad in dress shirts, jeans and loafers. They were taller than the other men, but not by much. Titled Lycans were always the tallest amongst all supernaturals. I recognised two men from the board from yesterday in their midst. The governing alpha was also among the group of men. Then I smelt it, the sweet smell of pine and fresh rain. It hit me so hard, that I visibly shook. It smelt so sweet and strong. The king lifted his head up slightly, his nostrils flaring as he sniffed the air, one sniff, two sniffs. I was curious, I wanted to know if the king also thought the scent was sweet. Maybe it was a new fragrance Brianna placed in the area for when the king would inspect it. Suddenly the king turned and our eyes met. I instantly felt like my spine had suddenly been attacked by sparks and tingles, as they raced up and down the length of my spine. I gasped and quickly bent my head down in a show of respect to the king. But then, I thought I heard a growl. stupid stupid stupid me !!! The king was angry at my disrespect. Didn't I just pray to the goddess? why was I the only one he caught staring at him? I had never been one to gossip and not mind my business, well I had no one to gossip with except family. But the urgent need to look back up at the king again, was surprising. My throat went dry as I felt a strong pull towards the group of men, which I totally ignored. I had already angered the king. No need to push my non existent luck. "This was the worst time to misbehave, Elle calm yourself.” I repeated this in my head as I counted down from a hundred. Ninety nine, ninety eight, ninety seven. “Elle Bordeaux, could you step forward please.” Gregory asked politely. I did as he asked . “ Eyes up Elle.” A deep authoritative voice commanded and I looked up. My eyes met his again, he was closer than the last time but not close enough for me. Sh*t Ellleee, what the heck was that, Not close enough, really? My subconscious scolded me and I nervously pushed my glasses farther up my nose. My nose twitched slightly, that sweet scent was getting stronger, threatening to overwhelm me. Wait.. It was coming from the king. But dear goddess he smelt heavenly I couldn’t get enough of his scent. Maybe it was a special scent that kings had. His eyes were a beautiful grey and silver. And his lips goddess, his lips made me lick mine hungrily. Those lips should never be on a man, it looks so inviting, a man should never have such beautiful lips. I thought to my self. Then he smirked and my cheeks instantly began to tinge red in embarrassment. Moisture began to pool between my legs. He freaking had a mole on the right side of his lower lip. My panties were getting damp as the moisture continued to gather at the juncture of my thighs , like a dam had just burst. I was beyond embarrassed, mortified was more like it. I was doubly sure everyone could smell my arousal. But most importantly, I would surely surely loose my Job, for behaving like a wh**e in the presence of the king. Dear goddess !! Ogling the king? What. The. f**k. Elle.? My inner voice screamed at me again. What type of f**kery is this? I muttered in the depths of my mind.
