CHAPTER 2 Congratulations, You Passed The Bridal Test

“If I were you, I'd retrace my steps, and not bother coming close any further," the strange man said to the men that were chasing me, as I took cover behind him, my whole body trembling with fear.

And just then I had their retreating footsteps, and I wondered who this strange man was that he intimidated them, they didn't bother challenging him or saying a word.

“I'm very grateful for your kindness Sir, I can leave now, right?," I asked, to be sure that what he told me some minutes ago was just a joke.

“Seriously? He said, his voice laced with sarcasm. “You suppose I'm being flippant? " he said with a gruff demeanor.

“Do you really mean I should marry you?" I asked him again to be sure.

“We had a deal, or you could probably have the boss and his men take advantage of you. The choice is yours to make," he said, and I felt his commanding aura. He meant business. I can't imagine myself with those disgusting men.

“Follow me! ” he commanded. We walked down through the passage entrance and left the building.

"Mr President, the business presentation is ready, and you have a business call from Mr. Wai Chu," a young man in a classical tuxedo suit came out of a Mercedes-Benz S - Class. He looked like a personal assistant.

“President? I said almost aloud, and the young man looked at me in confusion.

“You don't know the President of Walton's group? The young man said, after handing over the phone to the strange man, looking at me with disbelief.

“My goodness! Alexander Walton? That was the moment I discovered that the stranger I've been with for several minutes was the most compelling figure in the country, the only man that conquered the international economy by making several investments that achieved success. He could bring any business to its knees with a subtle hand signal.

The light in the clubhouse was so dim that I could barely see his face, but right now, I felt a lump in my throat. How can someone look like he was inspired by ancient Greek art? With his divine appearance, his look so intimidating, his broad shoulders and strong jawline that just fit his face, his dark gray eyes, and his dark stylish hair cut, and a small scar above his left eyebrow that gave him a touch of ruggedness.

“Ahhh, I yelled, after he told me he was Alexander Walton. I managed to get hold of myself, not trying to be overdramatic.

“Get into the car. We have to finalize the deal", he said after he finished speaking with the business person on the phone.

I got into the car, and the silence was so awkward, I just had to stare outside the window to avoid gazing at him.

“So, are you married? he said, breaking the silence.

" No, I'm not" , I said plainly.

“Any boyfriend, diseases, loans or secret babies? “ I gasped hearing that, " None, I said, and heaved a sigh thinking about what really will be my fate.

"Congratulations you've passed the bridal test, you're qualified to be my contracted bride”, he said, looking at a file in his hand.

“A contracted bride?," I asked, facing him this time."Yes, we'll sign the contract when we get to the marriage office.

“How many years is the contract going to last?, “ I asked him to be sure. "Just 12 months" , he said, still looking at the file, like he was studying something.

“If I were you, I'd just focus on the benefits of this marriage, rather than the cons. All my funds and 50% of my properties will also be yours for 12 months, “ he said, with no expression on his face.

The offer was very tempting I must say, but how do I even stay with someone I'm not even familiar with for 12 months? I think I'm the first lady to break the world's record of the fastest marriage. Since it's just 12 months, then it's fine, it's not really a long while. I heaved a sigh of relief, I mean I have nothing to lose.

“Read and sign here ma'am, " the assistant said, handing over the document to me.

I read the contract rules, and I was left speechless by what I saw. “No feelings and emotions attached, No s****l relationship, You should not enter my room for any reason, Everything you need will be provided for you, You will give my family the respect they deserve, I read the rules of the contract more than twice to be sure I understood everything said.

“Am i doing the right thing now?” I pondered as I picked up the pen to sign the contract document.

“Do you need some money at the moment?,” he asked, after we were done signing the contract.

I looked at him and he stared plainly at me, waiting for me to give him an answer. " Yes, I do. My mum needs to undergo a surgery and… I was saying, but he cut me off.

“How much are we talking about?, he asked. "5 million dollars" I said, bowing down my head.

“It'll be wired to your account immediately, " he said, and my heart skipped with happiness.

“Really? Thank you so much, I'm so grateful, I said, with so much happiness in me.

“My driver will drop you off, and will pick you up in three days time, that's when you'll move in finally “ he said, and left with his assistant.

“Ma'am, I'll be dropping you off,” the driver said, and we left the building.

I felt so much joy in my heart, at least I can save my mum's life now. “I can't believe I just got married today to the most powerful men in the country, it's just for 12 months tho, it's nothing to be excited about” I sighed, and just waved the excitement off.

He's so cold and distant, you could barely read what's on his mind, with his expressionless face. Well, I'll be able to cope with that since we won't be staying in the same room, or having any s****l relationship. I pondered, and was so lost until the driver's voice brought me out of my reverie.

"We're here ma'am, he said, as the car halted in front of the hospital building.

“It's Amelia, I'm grateful for the ride, " I said, and walked into the building to settle the debts for the surgery.

“How were you able to get 5 million dollars sis?" My younger sister, Alexa, asked, and I didn't even know how to explain everything to her.

“That's not important now Lexie, let's keep our fingers crossed that the surgery will be successful. I said, trying to evade the issue.

I need to hide this marriage from everyone, I hope I can pull this off… I let out a deep sigh.
