*The Man Behind The Silence*
*The Man Behind The Silence*
As Jean drove Merry home, the silence between them was comfortable. Merry was still shaken but grateful for Jean's timely intervention. Jean glanced at her occasionally, his expression softening.
"Thanks for saving me," Merry said, breaking the silence.
Jean nodded, his eyes fixed on the road.
When they arrived at Merry's house, Jean helped her out of the car and examined her wound. "You're hurt," he said, his voice low.
Merry winced slightly as Jean cleaned and bandaged the wound. "Yeah, I scraped it when...when he grabbed me," she replied, trying to make light conversation.
Jean's responses were limited to nods and brief murmurs. Merry tried to chat, but Jean's silence was noticeable. She sensed that something was bothering him.
As they entered Jean's house, Merry was struck by its warmth and beauty. The atmosphere was cozy, with soft lighting and comfortable furnishings. Jean led her to a plush couch, where he sat beside her, still tending to her wound.
Later, Jean helped Merry to the kitchen, where he began cooking a meal for her. The aroma of food filled the air, and Merry's stomach growled in response. Jean smiled slightly, his eyes crinkling at the corners.
As Jean cooked, Merry tried to engage him in conversation, but his responses remained brief. She noticed that he seemed distant, his mind elsewhere.
"You're really quiet," Merry said, looking at Jean. "Is everything okay?"
Jean's expression remained neutral, but his eyes seemed to hold a hint of something unspoken.
When the food was ready, Jean served Merry, who picked at her meal. "I'm not really hungry," she said, looking at Jean.
"Eat," Jean said, his voice firm but gentle. "You need to take care of yourself."
Merry pushed the food around her plate. "I will, but you have to tell me what's wrong," she said, her eyes locked on Jean's. "You're being really quiet, and it's making me worried."
Jean's expression softened, and he put down the utensils. He walked over to Merry, his eyes locked on hers. "I just didn't expect you to go out with someone else," he said, his voice low and husky.
Merry's heart skipped a beat. "What do you mean?"
Jean's eyes burned with intensity. "I asked you out, and you turned me down. Then I find out you're woth someone else. It...it bothered me more than I expected."
Merry's face warmed, and she felt a flutter in her chest. "You were bothered?"
Jean nodded, his eyes never leaving hers. "Yes. I couldn't help but wonder what he had that I didn't."
Merry's heart raced as Jean's words hung in the air. She felt a connection between them, a spark that she just made her remember that she kind of messed up with her decisions.
