*A Blind Date Beckons*
Merry's phone rang, shrill in the quiet of her room. She glanced at the screen, her heart sinking slightly as she saw her mother's name flash on the display. Their conversations had been somehow for years, but Mary had been avoiding her mother's calls lately. She hesitated for a moment before answering.
"Hello, Mom," Merry said, trying to sound cheerful.
"Hey Merry, I've been thinking," her mother, Madam Agatha, said without preamble. "It's time you started dating again. I have someone in mind, a wonderful young man who might be perfect for you."
Merry's instincts screamed at her to resist, but something about her mother's tone stayed her. Maybe it was the hint of warmth beneath the usual nagging. "Actually, Mom, I'm open to meeting him," Merry surprised herself by saying.
There was a pause on the other end of the line before her mother responded, her voice tinged with delight. "Really, dear? I'll set it up then. I'll send you the details later."
They chatted for a few more minutes, discussing nothing in particular, but the conversation ended on a positive note, a rarity in their relationship. Merry hung up, feeling a mix of emotions.Wow ...what just happened she thought.
Sandy, who was lounging on the bed beside her, looked up from her phone. "I thought you liked Jean” she said, her brow furrowed in confusion. "Why are you going on a blind date?"
Merry shrugged. "Honestly, I'm not sure about men these days especially when you know what Chris did. I just want to compare and see which one is best for me. I'm curious about this blind date, so I accepted."
Sandy nodded thoughtfully. "First and foremost I don't want to hear that Chris name around me .Fair enough. You do deserve to find someone great someone........hot ” she ended chuckling.
The next morning, Merry woke up early, her mind racing with thoughts of the blind date. She began arranging and preparing, choosing an outfit and doing her hair. She was lost in her thoughts when her phone buzzed with a call from Jean.
"Hey, Merry, what's up? I was thinking of taking you out to The Address, Fifth Floor today. It's a new luxurious spot in Lagos, and I heard great things about it," Jean said, his voice cheerful.
Merry hesitated, feeling a pang of guilt. She didn't want to hurt Jean's feelings, but she had already committed to the blind date. "Hey, Jean, I'm so sorry, but I'm going to be very busy today. Maybe some other time?" she said, apologetic.
Jean's tone turned questioning. "Busy? You're always busy lately. Is everything okay?"
Merry forced a laugh. "Yeah, everything's fine. Just family and stuff. Let's catch up later okay?"
After hanging up with Jean.
Merry felt a mix of emotions. She was excited about the blind date, but a part of her felt like she was playing with fire. Would she find what she was looking for with one of these men, or would she end up getting heartbroken..ohh she hates to remember Chris in this situation.
With a deep breath, Merry pushed aside her doubts and focused on getting ready for her blind date. She was determined to take things one step at a time and see where this new path would lead her.
As she finished getting dressed and headed out, Merry couldn't help but wonder what today would bring.
She really wish the best for herself.
