Another Day

“But all the love in the world won't save a sinking ship. You have to either bail or jump overboard.” ― Sarah Dessen Aunt Bonnie had a rough night.  She had not felt well and had tossed and turned worrying if she would be able to get her girls back together. Today was a new day and she prayed it would be a better day. Bella rolled out of the bed.  Oh, what she would give to sleep in.  She turned to look out the window at the beautiful blue ocean. What a sight to wake up to she thought. Then her mind wondered to Calista. Abigail had been so rude last night.  Hopefully, she would be better today.  Bella had tried to call Calista last night, but she had not answered.  Calista had always let Abigail bully her.  Calista always tried to be the peacemaker. She always apologized first and if Bella and Abigail got into an argument, she was the one that pleaded with them to get along.  Bella hurried to get ready for breakfast. She put on a pair of white slacks with a yellow halter top.  She put her hair up in a loose french twist. She slid on her sandles.  Looking in the mirror she was satisfied that she looked like she was on vacation. Abigail had gotten up early to go to the fitness center.  She hoped that working out would help clear her mind and give her the energy she was going to need today. She had not been able to sleep last night. She kept thinking about Calista and Beau not being together any longer. As she stepped off the treadmill, she could feel sweat rolling down her back.  She had a great work out and felt good.  She looked at her watch and discovered she had worked out longer that she had planned. She hurried to take a quick shower and dress for breakfast.  She put on a navy skort with a white and navy blouse.  She wore her hair half up and half down.  After slipping on her white dock shoes she was ready. As she was leaving her room, she glanced in the mirror and confirmed the white sundress had been a good choice.  She left for breakfast. Everyone made their way to the buffet. The smells were amazing.  You could smell fresh bread and bacon. Oh my, what a selection thought Bella. They had eggs, biscuits, bacon, sausage, grits, oatmeal, pancakes, and French toast.  Bella was in heaven and then she turned to see the biggest omelet bar she had ever seen.  She decided on an omelet full of spinich, mushrooms, ham, and cheese. They all sat down at the table to eat.  Aunt Bonnie said, “Abigail do you have something you would like to say to Calista”? Abigail looked confused at first and then she said “Oh, sorry for the way I spoke to you last night Calista”. Here was where things began to change. Calista would have normally said it is ok but instead she said, “Abigail you’ve always been a rude b***h, I do not know why one would expect you to change”.  Everyone just stared at Calista flabbergasted.  Abigail had almost choked on her food and Bella just burst out laughing. “Well aren’t you the feisty one this morning” said Abigail laughing. I guess I deserve that.  Once everyone finished eating, Abigail turned to Calista and nicely asked “What happened with you and Beau”?  Bella was confused. “What is she talking about Calista”?  Calista and Beau had been high school sweethearts and married for over twelve years.  Calista looked sad and finally began to explain to everyone what was going on. Well, I am still trying to figure it all out.  One day I took the kids to the park and when I came home his clothes were gone.  The closets, dressers, medicine cabinet, everything was completely empty.  All his personal belongings were gone. He left no note, No nothing. I was able to get hold of him at work the following day only for him to tell me he was no longer in love with me and wanted a new life.  About a week later I discovered he had a new life with a co-worker. I requested help with the kids, but he said he did not have any money right now because he was trying to start over. I got served with divorce papers three days later.  A year later, Beau has still not visited or called our kids. I have taken on a job at the local diner waiting tables to pay the bills. We are barely making it. I must keep it all together for my kids.  They are confused and hurt.  I am still waiting on my day in court because he refuses to pay any child support.  Bella looked at Calista seeing a different person.  This person was strong and determined.    Calista, I am so sorry said Bella.  I am going to kick his ass when we get back said Abigail.  Calista looked at her with a smile.  No need, he will get his.  Calista had almost forgotten how protective Abigail could be.  It was like it was alright for her to give her a hard time but no one else was going to get away with it.    Bella looked over at Aunt Bonnie and noticed she had barely eaten anything.  Aunt Bonnie are you feeling alright?  I am good, just a little tired.  Bella what have you and Teagan been up to?  Well I am not sure what Teagan has been up to.  We split up within a few months of moving and have not spoken in years. Bella why didn’t you tell us asked Abigail. Was not much to tell.  We were both working all the time and decided it was best to go our separate ways.  I have put my time in at work trying to advance within the company.   What about you Abigail? Well I still see Kane, but it is more for occasional companionship.  We do not have any plans on becoming a couple.  Are you ok with that sweetheart asked Aunt Bonnie? I would like to have a family but with all the hours I put in I just do not know how I would be able to make time for it all.  Relationships for us are as exciting as a Sinking Ship laughed Abigail. Enough about men that do not know a good thing when they see it, what are we going to do today?
